Following her debut at the recent Monaco Yacht Show, the inner-workings of Joy Rider, Damen’s first 46-metre support yacht and the 15th addition to their Yacht Support range, have been revealed. The YS 4508 model yacht, which was built on speculation and completed in September of this year, has naval architecture, exteriors and interiors developed by the in-house Yacht Support design team. The steel semi-displacement yacht with aluminium superstructure was built with purpose and features Damen’s proven Sea Axe hull design. When not in use, Joy Rider is set-up to be an ideal charter yacht.Photo: DamenPhoto: DamenPhoto: DamenUp to six guests can be accommodated on the main deck in the master suite or two guest staterooms, all of which have en-suite bathrooms and floating floors for low noise and vibrations. The main deck also boasts a 25-square-metre lounge with a seating and dining area, where guests can make use of the 10-square-metre galley and depending on the owner’s choice of customisations, Joy Rider can be fitted with audiovisual, entertainment and internet systems. In one of the many choices of configurations, the 120 square metres of deck space onboard can be customised to carry up to 15 tonnes of tenders, toys, diving equipment and submersibles, including a helideck which can handle a take-off weight of up to 3,700kg. The support yacht can carry a 15-metre Damen Interceptor, a rugged and reliable craft used by law enforcement around the world, submersibles, a dive store with compressors, EANx facilities, tenders up to 10.5 metres and an A-frame on the stern for smooth transitions from the yacht to the water. Accommodation for a divemaster and a submersible pilot can also be factored in.Photo: Damen“We are excited about bringing all our know-how and experience to the new YS 4508 design. In particular, Joy Rider’s adventure capability with guest areas and cabins creates a really fun and flexible set-up. This is going to lift your yachting experience to a whole new level," says managing director Rose Damen.

With the added comfort of zero-speed fin stabilisers, Joy Rider can reach up to 16.5 knots and has an impressive range of 5,000 nautical miles while cruising at 12 knots, all thanks to her twin CAT C32 TTA diesel engines which give her 2,400hp.
