Dutch ship builder Damen is working with direct-action marine conservation organisation, Sea Shepherd, to design and build a patrol vessel for its conservation campaigns. Thanks to a substantial €8,300,000 donation by the Dutch Postcode Lottery, Sea Shepherd is able for the first time in its history to purchase a purpose-built ship.
“Sea Shepherd will now be able to have a custom-designed ship built, capable of achieving speeds that far exceed any of the vessels in our current fleet. After researching possible ship builders for the last two years, negotiations with Damen has resulted in a blueprint of our ideal ship,” said Captain Alex Cornelissen, CEO of Sea Shepherd Global.
The new Damen ship is set for delivery in late 2016 and will be joining the other four ships in Sea Shepherd Global’s fleet.
