Damen Yachting’s first 53m YS 53 support yacht sold to Anthony Hsieh’s Bad Company Fleet

Damen Yachting has announced the sale of their first vessel in the all-new YS 53 series. The 53-metre yacht is part of the Dutch builder’s Yacht Support range and will be delivered in 2023 as part of Anthony Hsieh’s unique and extensive private fishing programme.Damen Yachting YS 5301 yacht exterior designThe YS 53 range marks a strategic shift in Damen Yachting’s Yacht Support approach and was introduced to the market in February this year. The new design draws on the experiences of the near 20 Yacht Support vessels they have already built and sold over the last decade. YS 53 is a flexible and highly customisable design with YS 5301 leading by example.

“This is one of the most exciting projects we have worked on.” said Damen Yachting’s Commercial Executive, Jan van Hogerwou. “Not only is this the first of our new YS 53 range but this is also the first Yacht Support we have built that will be used exclusively as part of a sport fishing fleet and programme.”

The new owner Anthony Hsieh has ambitious goals for the YS 5301 when it joins his Bad Company fleet in 2023. YS 5301 will primarily be located in the Indian and Pacific Oceans where she will form the home and hub of his unique and extensive fishing programme. She will incorporate fishing in relatively uncharted waters and support several marine conservation projects.

“What we are planning to do with the 5301 no one has ever done before, and I think this will set a whole new tier of adventure for future sportsmen to explore.” said Anthony Hsieh, owner of the Bad Company fleet. “My hope is that this ambitious programme will inspire a whole new generation of sportsmen to create their own programmes. It will be good for the sport, yachting and the fishing industries.”

The YS 5301 will be equipped with a 43-foot Release Game boat and a 32-foot Blackfin boat which carries significant sentiment for Hsieh. Blackfin was Hsieh’s first Game fishing boat purchase more than 30 years ago and has recently been repurchased and refurbished for this adventure. Both of these Game boats will be deployed into locations where the programme does not already have a Bad Company fleet. The Atlantic operations of the programme are covered by the 46-metre YS 4508 Yacht Support, BAD COMPANY SUPPORT. She features a 33-foot Game boat on board and was originally delivered by Damen Yachting in 2019 and sold and joined the Bad Company fleet in 2021.

“Hsieh’s unique vision and mission he has planned for this all-new Yacht Support is very inspiring and we are looking forward to the next 12 months and getting her ready to head out with the rest of his fleet.” said Jan van Hogerwou who has worked closely with Neil Emmott from Superyacht Sales and Charter in Fort Lauderdale on behalf of Hsieh throughout the sale.

YS 5301 boasts 499 GT with room for up to 16 guests onboard as well as a crew of 10. She has been fully designed by Damen Yachting with her interior, exterior and naval architecture coming from the pen of the Dutch builders. YS5301 features a huge 15-tonne deck crane and notably will be fully IMO Tier III compliant, so she should reduce harmful emissions by 70 percent for full-range operations. YS 5301 will be powered by twin engines that will deliver her a top speed of 19 knots.
