Spain-based design studio Lobanov Design has unveiled the renderings for a new sailing yacht concept Double Luck. The 88-metre yacht, also known as 八+八 (88) uses Chinese numerology and the Mandarin words for 88 to reflect the Chinese belief that the number 8 is the luckiest.Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov DesignDouble Luck features naval architecture from Oceanco with a slick and minimalist design reminiscent of the automotive industry. “We wanted the yacht to give a feeling of the best classic British Gran Turismo cars of the past,” commented Lobanov Design. “The bow has a little reverse inclination, while the sheer line smoothly goes down towards the low aft”Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov DesignDouble Luck is characterised by long elegant lines with her superstructure styled as a cockpit. She has also been designed with two main exterior colour options of entirely black with copper details or entirely white with yellow gold details.Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov DesignThe design brief behind Double Luck involved creating a calm and serene atmosphere for guests, with a heavy reference to the Asian Zen culture. In order to achieve that, Lobanov Design has used soft shapes, surfaces, chamfers, and radiuses to create a unified concept.Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov DesignThe interior of Double Luck is centred around her two exterior masts which the design studio has chosen to accentuate rather than hide. They have used them as the centre point of spaces for the forward zen garden or main saloon.Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov DesignAll of the interior spaces have been treated in a symmetrical way to reinforce the feeling of balance and peace. Her free-flowing furniture allows for the space to be adapted and her stairs are showcased rather than hidden.Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov DesignDouble Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov DesignDouble Luck features naval architecture by Oceanco and Dykstra Naval Architects, making use of an ultra-efficient design incorporating a high-performance Dykstra DynaRig sailing system, alongside Oceanco’s pioneering power regeneration system as first installed on 106.7-metre Black Pearl. The sailing system can be handled by a single crew member within six minutes without interfering with the guests’ experience. “The outcome is a high-efficiency sailing yacht capable of decreasing fossil fuel usage while providing an ultra-quiet experience onboard and attaining global cruising capability,” added Lobanov Design.Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov Design“The outcome is a high-efficiency sailing yacht capable of decreasing fossil fuel usage by 30 percent while providing an ultra-quiet experience onboard and attaining global cruising capability,” added Lobanov Design.Double Luck yacht concept by Lobanov Design and OceancoPhoto: Lobanov Design
