According to local specialists, the blaze erupted when workers were making repairs to the hull of a superyacht, cutting out a section of the hull and working with flammable resin.

Drinkability, the motor yacht, is said to have been completely destroyed by the event, while Danneskjold has been very severely damaged.  One of the workers was injured in the event and taken to hospital by the Navy paramedics who arrived at the scene.St. Barths Bucket 2018 Day 3 Photo: Breed MediaRick Ursch, an eye witness, reported seeing Drinkability catch alight while on a travel lift, the fire then spreading to Danneskjold which was situated next door. Fire crews worked hard to control the blaze as the yachts were situated directly next to a smaller shed full of highly flammable vintage yachts, fortunately, they got it under control before it could spread.

Danneskjold was only sold in November, it is quite likely that she was at the shipyard for a short refit period before setting sail with her new owners in the Spring.
