Cast your mind back to the 1930s. The first Zeppelin Airship took flight, the globe geared up for the second great war of the century, and classic ‘Golden Age’ yacht liners such as 59-metre Marala and 91-metre Nahlin plied the planet’s seas. Meanwhile, on Ireland’s rugged Atlantic west coast, a joint venture between the local Chamber of Commerce and a family from Northampton lead to the birth of deck shoe and sailing boot specialists, Dubarry. In a bid to create jobs in Galway’s small town of Ballinasloe, a yachting legacy was born.Photo: Dubarry Today, Dubarry creates clothing that caters to all of a yachties’ needs. Most recently, it launched the new Dubarry Aquatech collection. Dubbed “an exciting and versatile new range of performance footwear, clothing and accessories,” the designers behind the new line say products have been specifically developed for use across a wide variety of nautical environments. Here, they share four of the features they’re most proud of. Photo: Dubarry
Clothing with Purpose
“At the core of this collection are a number of key performance characteristics that bring many important benefits to the wearer,” say designers. Wearers can expect breathability, effective waterproofing, UPF-50 sun protection, moisture-wicking and quick-drying fabrics, as well as practical additions like built-in eyewear cleaning patches — creating liveable and lasting pieces of kit is at the crux of the brand’s new line.
A Personal Touch
Selected Dubarry styles are developed with low-key branding so that crew names, boat names or sponsors can be printed or embroidered onto the kit. This makes the line functional for an industry that has a versatile set of needs.
There are few places a well-equipped explorer yacht can’t travel. Likewise, Dubarry makes it their mission to partner with the main suppliers to this market globally and says that this is one of their key selling points for sailors and motor yacht owners alike.

Dubarry’s Aquatech footwear range boasts high-performance technical trainers, classic hand-crafted deck shoes and flexible, lightweight sailing boots. Footwear has been at the heart of what the brand does for almost one hundred years, so it is little surprise that they’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what works. “The footwear collection delivers excellent breathability, comfort, full freedom of movement, long-lasting durability and uniquely reliable grip in a wide variety of styles that are engineered to enhance your natural agility,” her designers promise.
