The Florida-based shipbuilder Dynamic Supercats, the sister company of Dynamic Boats, will start the construction of an all-new 38-metre catamaran project later this year. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/245746/image/large-c1a51a339ba74f7d45fd39eb4c42f96d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/245746">Project Garfield has been commissioned by an owner of a 25-metre catamaran, who was looking for something larger and more suitable for their needs. The client desired a sailing catamaran with a shallow draught, high cross deck and freeboard and expansive outdoor space on every deck. After scouring the market for three years with the owner’s representative and build captain Jon Bellemare, nothing quite matched their needs.&nbsp;Unable to find a yacht on the market, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6467" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantu Design (Company)">Cantu Design</a> and DFD Design were recruited to develop a design and naval architecture package to meet the owner’s needs – and the result was the 38-metre Project Garfield. “Working closely with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6467" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantu Design (Company)">Cantu</a> and DFD Design over the past couple of years, we have developed a unique layout for the superyacht industry. Catamarans are the future, and require us to think outside of the box,” Jon Bellemare explained.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/245745/image/large-31e2cafcf14ef49e7e3faa0b1c4a8b50.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/245745">“We struggled to find something that checked all the boxes and gave the owner the feel and features they desired to have onboard,” Bellemare added. “Additionally, they want to venture to remote parts of the world in the future as a family. These items and more all came into play when developing this catamaran.”Project Garfield offers an abundance of outdoor space for entertaining family and friends, which can be covered if desired. The owners also wanted direct access to the water from the master suite as “they want to feel like they’re actually on a boat close to the water, not in a hotel,” &nbsp;Bellemare explained. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/245748/image/large-4054dfcac1636c7691ae4bdcb07dd237.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/245748">A core feature of Project Garfield is her lowered aft tender platform that creates a full-beam beach club that can be accessed directly from the aft staterooms. “We created a timeless exterior with flowing curves and large open spaces, you truly feel like you have an open deck to play on” John Cantu explained. “We [also] put the galley on the main deck next to the saloon, as this experience was important to the owners and the way in which they like to entertain family and friends.”Project Garfield can accommodate as many as 12 guests. In terms of performance, the catamaran will deliver a top speed of 14 knots and will be capable of making the transpacific crossing under power. As a result of this, the judge did not dismiss the case because Boats Group lacks market power.However, the judge said that Brill Maritime had failed to show that Boats Group engaged in illegal anticompetitive conduct and under US antitrust law, being a monopoly is not illegal by itself.The court repeatedly emphasised that monopoly power is legal, but using that power through anticompetitive behaviour to exclude rivals is illegal.&nbsp;The judge found that Brill Maritime’s three main allegations were insufficient including that Boats Group became dominant by acquiring competitors such as YachtWorld.com, boats.com and YachtCloser.com.The judge said that acquiring competitors is not necessarily illegal and that Brill Maritime had not explained how these acquisitions had harmed competition. The complaint had described the acquisitions as “strategic” suggesting it was more of a successful business move than illegal conduct. The judge explained that Brill Maritime had shown that Boats Group bought competitors, but not that these acquisitions were unlawful. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/355039/image/large-513a0ee840e10e5371f647093bba58d9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/355039">Brill Maritime also claimed that Boats Group's subscription agreements stoped brokers from listing boats elsewhere. The judge examined the contract language and concluded that the provision merely prevented brokers from implying that a YachtWorld or Boats Group listing originated somewhere else. He therefore concluded that you can advertise on YachtWorld and on other sites and the contract simply prevented you from pretending a Boats Group listing came from another platform, meaning the clause is not an exclusive dealing arrangement.Finally, Brill Maritime argued that Boats Group had dramatically increased its prices. The judge responded that high prices alone are not an antitrust violation. The court cited multiple precedents saying a legal monopolist is generally allowed to charge whatever prices it wants. To prove monopolisation, Brill Maritime needed to show that the higher prices resulted from illegal exclusionary conduct.In conclusion, the judge accepted that Boats Group may hold monopoly power in the US online boat-listing market, but ruled that the plaintiffs failed to show that Boats Group acquired or maintained that position through illegal anticompetitive conduct.United States District Judge, Roy K. Altman dismissed the complaint without prejudice, meaning the plaintiff is able to resubmit an amended complaint, with a deadline of 30 June 2026.&nbsp;The lawsuit also contained claims under Florida law, with the federal court declining to hear the state claims as the federal antitrust claims were dismissed. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6467" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantu Design (Company)">Cantu Design</a> has unveiled the designs for a new 100-metre superyacht concept called CD100, initially designed for a movie loving client who worked closely with the team to create a vessel with timeless interiors and an unusual arrangement. The design brief required a yacht that the owner could entertain guests on at various film events around the world such as the Cannes Film Festival. The aft main deck is dedicated to the stowage of tenders and toys, “We wanted to avoid creating a dedicated internal space for bulky machinery that spends more time on the sea when at anchor than on deck,” explains <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6467" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantu Design (Company)">Cantu</a>.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/204898/image/large-dd9ef699e80fc09c0fdfc6af72efdf36.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/204898">The main deck tender bay provides an al fresco lounge space where the owner can show off his favourite toys and coordinate water adventures off the aft deck. Stowing toys on this level helps to minimise dead space and utilises all of the lower deck, which features a large wellness centre with a gym, massage room, hammam and sauna, changing rooms and a large diving room.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/204897/image/large-b9fe9b69ad9a59b7ac687f4e4cac6e00.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/204897">This level can be accessed directly from the stern or from the central lobby, via a glass-walled corridor that cuts through the engine room. Equally, the owner and guests can access the main deck via a staircase on the starboard side. It leads up to the aft main deck where guests can enjoy a large swimming pool surrounded by aft facing seating and a central staircase that leads into the pool. When the tenders are deployed, the slatted-style folding platforms, allowing guests to enjoy a full-beam deck area, to be used as a dance floor or extension of the pool deck.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/204892/image/large-6474722f3e790064e978b6f98f748801.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/204892">“One of the keys to the interior layout was to try and make the journey from one end of the yacht to the other as interesting as possible,” says Cantu. “By opting for curved walls and corridors wherever possible, it adds intrigue and avoids the mundane straight line that we have become accustomed to seeing.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/204891/image/large-9bd10963510b20703cd0119002d9c28c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/204891">The yacht can accommodate as many as 14 guests in total, with two VIP suites, three doubles and two twin suites. A visual connection is made between the owner’s foyer and the skylounge thanks to exterior curved glass panes that extend from one deck to the other. Above the sundeck is the top deck with an enclosed observation lounge-meeting room with balconies forward and aft where guests can enjoy a more intimate and private setting.
