After years of hard work the Yay Gemi Yapim Shipyard in Kocaeli launched their first superyacht on Sunday 11 May 2008. Christened Nourah of Riyad, the yacht was transported from her building shed to the floating dock. On Monday late in the afternoon the big moment was there, as the floating dock was slowly lowered and Nourah of Riyad hit the water for the first time.
Both the interior and exterior of Nourah of Riyad were designed by Donald Starkey and the engineers of Yay Gemi Yapim provided all technical drawings. She has a steel hull with aluminium superstructure and is build to American Bureau of Shipping and MCA rules.
Twin 3150HP Caterpillar engines enable the yacht to achieve a top speed of 19 knots and a cruise speed of 16.5 knots. Enough fuel is carried onboard to provide a range in excess of 5000nm.
When finished over the next few weeks, Nourah of Riyad will set sail to the South of France.
