Expansion of Charles Taylor marine’s international yacht practice

Charles Taylor marine, the international claims consultants, have expanded their super-yacht practice and now have a presence throughout the Mediterranean. They have brought together a network of yacht experts in France, Greece, Spain, Italy and Turkey to enable them to provide a speedy and comprehensive response to events.

Although Charles Taylor marine already had offices in the region, they now have additional specialist expertise in key yacht centres to enable a rapid response and to provide a bespoke claims management service for underwriters and their customers.

The move follows Charles Taylor marine’s recent recruitment of Nick Smith, former owner and Managing Director of Global Claims Management Ltd, a specialist luxury yacht claims service provider. This provides the Charles Taylor marine yacht practice with a greater presence in Florida, the Caribbean and Mexico. The company offers a round-the-clock service to underwriters and their policyholders.

“Taking care of a super-yacht after there’s been an incident is very different from conventional marine adjusting, and what works for one may not work for the other,” says head of practice Nick Smith. “We are delighted to have people on the spot with the relevant knowledge and experience.”

In the past decade there has been a vast increase in the number of super yachts (normally defined as anything above 24 metres or 80 feet) and a corresponding rise in the opportunities for underwriters. The risks, however, have also escalated as owners are forced by a shortage of berthing capacity to look further afield and as it becomes more difficult to recruit crews with the right experience.
