Feadship De Vries Makkum secures new XL order

The Feadship Makkum yard has secured a new order this week, to build a 88m yacht (1004). The yard now has four projects in various stages of engineering and construction including the 75m XL 1001. These orders will keep the yard busy until early 2013.

An exceptional accomplishment for the royal shipyard, that started in 2005 with the building of XL-yachts in the Makkum cathedral. General manager Sijbrand De Vries is very enthusiastic about the new order.

"Apart from the fact that I find this magnificent a project , I am very pleased with the trust the client has put in our yard. The owner has quite clearly chosen for a quality product from Feadship Makkum. Thanks to this, we can offer continuity for our colleagues and assistant-builders. The present order book has accelerated several investments we are making in our shipyard. The plans for these investments are already on our drawing board."

The new 88 meter yacht, which was signed shortly after Christmas, will be fitted with latest technology. The yacht will be equipped with four engines that drive 3.2m propellers and provide enough power to reach a speed of 22+ knots. The 1004 will also be equipped with Feadship’s 'dynamic positioning' system, that will hold the yacht in position, at the flick of a switch. There are two 10m tenders and a helicopter that is stored below decks.

All six split-level decks can be reached by a glass elevator. The sundeck will have several overhangs, bringing the maximum beam to 16.5m. It offers guests a unique opportunity to enjoy a beautiful day on deck.
