Getting to know Savannah Yacht Center: The first choice for refits on the East Coast, USA

With the likes of Aviva and Aquarius as some of their most notable visitors, the Savannah Yacht Center has become one of the top choices of refit yard on the east coast of America. As one of the only yards in the USA able to accommodate superyachts over 60 metres, the Center has opened up opportunities for the world fleet to venture further to the USA's East Coast and make the most of the continuous good weather with the assurance that world-class services are always within close proximity. Surrounded by deep water, the Savannah Yacht Center was designed with big yachts in mind. For example, a recent key project for the American yard was Aviva, the 67.9-metre creation by Abeking & Rasmussen. 68m yacht Aviva mooredAviva spent one summer sitting in the graving dock as part of an extensive refit which included an overhaul of her air compressors, a generator service and a fresh repaint of her hull and superstructure from paint specialists Pinmar. Aviva also received some small additional, but critical, upgrades and left the yard looking brand new.

This service is typical of the family-owned Colonial Group, who after having acquired the Center, share their client-centric values and expert management team with all clients of the Savannah Yacht Center. Since being founded in 1921, Colonial has provided industry-leading levels of service, which has earnt them a #64 ranking on the Forbes List of America's Largest Private Companies.Savannah Yacht Center company photoPhoto: Savannah Yacht CenterOverall, the Center is equipped with 365 metres worth of floating docks for in-water service and paint refinishing, plus a dry dock for superyachts measuring up to 140 metres. If necessary, superyachts here can be hauled out by the brand-new 3,240-ton shiplift, which was recently put to use on a 73-metre superyacht from Turquoise Yachts. This yacht also received a full paint job from the in-house Pinmar team, who are just one of the best-in-class affiliates the Center chooses to associate with. Other teams located directly onsite include specialists in electricals, fabrication, joinery and fueling services. That belief is not only the bedrock of our successful past but also the foundation of our bright future." Savannah Yacht CenterGeorge Whitehouse, Business Development Director, adds: “Until we opened our new facilities, the USA did not have the capabilities to lift more than one large yacht in a superyacht yard and clients were therefore forced to head to a commercial yard. In addition to that, it is important to highlight what we have here in the beautiful city of Savannah and the surrounding area – there are so many options and activities available for the crew.”87m yacht Ace in dockAs a favoured alternative to facilities in Florida and the Bahamas, the Center is anticipating a busy season continuing to provide premier repair and maintenance services to some of the world’s largest superyachts.
