The focused panel sessions at the Society of Naval Architects and Engineers Annual Meeting and Expo (October 21-23 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, Rhode Island) will feature four timely topics: Electric Ships; Renewable Energy from the Oceans; Unmanned and Autonomous Ships of the Future; and Ship Efficiency in the Greenhouse Gas Era. Each two-hour panel session will be chaired and moderated by experienced SNAME members. Each session will have three leading experts who will make thirty minute presentations on their area of expertise, followed by a moderated thirty minute discussion period which will include questions and answers from the audience. Organisers of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4556" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cannes Yachting Festival (Company)">Cannes Yachting Festival</a> have announced a change to the show layout for September 2024. The alterations are planned for next year’s event due to ongoing modernisation works at the Vieux Port.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/286638/image/large-441f32ca5be45acb28a06da9315b5475.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/286638">The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4556" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cannes Yachting Festival (Company)">Cannes Yachting Festival</a> is spread across two ports, both of which are a short walking distance from each other. The Vieux Port is one of the oldest harbours on the French Riviera and during this year’s event, was home to 540 yachts, while Port Canto welcomed 115 sailing yachts from 10 to 30-metres.The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4556" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cannes Yachting Festival (Company)">Cannes Yachting Festival</a> is managed by RX France, and the technical teams and Show Director Sylvie Ernoult have been working together with the City of Cannes and MVPC, since the first quarter to design a new, optimum layout that is suitable for the show while the work is being carried out.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/286276/image/large-1a1de47b5af69bc4f3f13bf690b09332.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/286276">The city of Cannes plans to renovate and modernise the Vieux Port resulting in new areas being created. Moreover the model features a generous 86 square-metres of outdoor space extending from the bow to the stern, inviting guests to bask in the sun and relish the sea breeze. The standout feature of this model is its two-and-a-half-deck layout, though the design of the exterior lines masterfully deceives the observer into perceiving it as a classic two-deck yacht with a flybridge. The new concept focuses heavily on open space and features a reflective glass superstructure that mirrors her surroundings.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288121/image/large-808baff3b58ad59e2fbad287108918a6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288121">Project MED takes inspiration from the power of open space and celebrates the Mediterranean lifestyle and free-spirited thinkers.
