London based, Tim Gosling is world renowned for designing exquisite, bespoke furniture and his impressive portfolio includes the 5 Star Goring Hotel in London and BP’s London Headquarters, as well as numerous private clients and residences. Client commission’s range from ‘straw marquetry’ drinks cabinets, dining chairs, desks and tables to libraries and Venetian Palazzos. Tim travels worldwide designing and sourcing materials and employs a team of exceptional British craftsman, whose skills are both traditional and innovative.
Designing interior furniture for Super Yachts gave the Gosling team, led by Phil Sturdy, an insight into the flourishing yacht industry and inspired the creation of Gosling Marine. The debut collection comprises of a range of unique carbon fibre deck furniture based on the lines and aesthetics of the Art Deco design movement. Tim Gosling’s exceptional design skills coupled with expert artisans has created a collection, which pushes the boundaries of the use of carbon fibre and is a move away from the more readily available traditional ‘teak’. In addition, Gosling listened to feedback from industry professionals and has incorporated many unique new practical features, which will be embraced by owners and crew.
Each piece is designed with precision to create furniture with integrity. Gosling Marine fills a gap in the Mega and Superyacht market providing an elegant carbon fibre collection, which stays in touch with yachting heritage by including elements of teak inset in the carbon fibre. The collection includes a stool and bar stool, deck lounger, low table, side table and sofa. The ergonomic design is ideal for the recent increase in passenger allowance and collections can be customized to any bespoke colour.
The marine grade durability and weatherproofing does not compromise the design and comfort. In response to demand the chair seats are generous and supplied with upholstered day and evening cushions. Gosling Marine deck furniture is crafted to withstand all the elements the marine world delivers, wind, rain and scorching sun. Replacing outside furniture every couple of years will be a thing of the past. The furniture is engineered to last, pieces, which owners can take with them if they sell up.
Carbon fibre does not discolour, requires minimal maintenance and even when left in full sunlight will remain cool to touch. This lightweight furniture is ideal for crew who can easily stow away or transport on tenders to remote beaches. Each chair comes with a robust cloth carrier for easy transport.
Recent press reports released figures stating that the strongest growth in the industry came from "owners sprucing up their existing yachts rather than splashing out on new vessels." Tim is confident that Gosling Marine has listened to the industry and produced a collection, which owners and crew will choose. "Carbon fibre allows you to design and create pieces that would normally have to be much thicker and heavier and allows us to create unusual shapes. This debut collection offers the industry a wider choice making deck furniture as integral a part of yacht design as the interior. My favourite piece in this collection has to be the tub chair design. Its fluidity, the deco inspiration and the sheer elegance that in part reflects luxury travel of the 1930s. Also, the fact it is white, gives it a really contemporary twist.”
