According to Fetton, improving cross-border yacht movements and addressing regulatory challenges are critical for the region’s future. Fam trips, where brokers and stakeholders experience what the Gulf has to offer, were also highlighted as essential for the region’s growth.Events like the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix have proven to be key attractions for yachts in the Gulf. Panellists called it "the most successful yachting magnet in the industry," as yachts tend to return after attending such events. However, regulatory challenges and limited cruising options currently hinder the region’s potential to fully capitalise on these opportunities.The discussion also touched on geopolitical dynamics and their impact on the region’s yachting sector. While political challenges have not significantly deterred yachting, insurance costs and logistical barriers, such as a 30 percent price increase for rounding the Cape of Good Hope, remain concerns. The Gulf Superyacht Summit 2024, previously known as The International Superyacht Summit was acquired by <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">SuperYacht Times</a> in May 2022. &nbsp; This 2-day annual event seeks to inform, assist and advise yachting clients and related interested parties, with the goal to develop the Gulf as a superyacht winter destination. &nbsp; The Gulf region is of growing importance to the superyacht industry. Dubai has some of the biggest marina developments in the world and the annual Formula 1 event in Abu Dhabi attracts a large crowd of superyachts. A growing number of yachts are using the UAE as a hub from where they travel further east to places like the Seychelles, Maldives, Indonesia and Thailand. &nbsp; Not only is the region establishing itself as a superyacht hub, but also Dubai aims to become the crypto capital of the world. With a lot of new wealth being created in this market sector, the region will also be of growing importance to yacht builders and brokers looking to engage with new clients.
