Holland Jachtbouw owner passes away

Written by Gemma Fottles

Founding father and owner of the Dutch shipyard Holland Jachtbouw, Chris Gongriep, has sadly passed away. A passionate sailor, Gongriep turned his passion to boat building and stood at the helm of the yard for 25 years, creating acclaimed yachts such as the J Class Rainbow.

The team at Holland Jachtbouw released the following statement: โ€œWe are grateful for how Chris developed the yard and how he made it possible for others to share their passion for building yachts, meanwhile stimulating the possibility for yacht owners to create their own dream and to be able to show their passion and love for the sea. His passing away is a great loss for Holland Jachtbouw, his inspiration and hospitality will be missed throughout the industry and the international sailing scenes. We remember his smile, his passion and his creativity for how to make dreams come true.โ€

Holland Jachtbouw will host a memorial ceremony 17th December at the yardโ€™s facilities in Zaandam, followed by a private funeral. We offer our deepest condolences for the loss of a husband and father to Gongriepโ€™s family.
