With the news just having been announced that the 22nd hull of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/119" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Horizon Yachts (Company)">Horizon</a>’s 27.45-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/10853" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Horizon FD90/2227.19m (89'2&quot;)Horizon Yachts2022">Horizon FD90</a> series has been sold and launched, we went behind the scenes to speak to her designers, and find out a little more about the inspiration behind her interior styling. This new FD90 features a four stateroom layout with a main deck master suite and a convertible VIP on the lower deck alongside three ensuite staterooms. Top features include a spacious beach club, sliding doors from the saloon giving access to a walk-around deck and her large galley. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216104/image/large-76b819ac4f6f6fcde187a2102bd2c962.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216104">The interior concept has been created by Horizon’s own design team and is a departure from the styling of earlier models which focused on warm woods for the floor panelling and ceiling in the main saloon. As the styling has progressed over the series, the designers have incorporated unique lighting solutions, particularly with warm strip lights in the ceiling that give the yacht a glow that emanates from within.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216118/image/large-0e4855e4257dac8f987b306f3641985c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216118"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216117/image/large-3d624a0f024e017458c2d3ce9734140b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216117">Now this next development strips back the golden tones to discrete and carefully placed accents, leaning on marble and lighter woods to lift the space and create a modern and airy style that accentuates the large floor to ceiling windows.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216123/image/large-372b1584691b7d3e563c96d39b9b85e0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216123">Speaking with her designers, it is clear that the simple classicism of the design was a carefully thought out aesthetic. “The classic style is brought out by the different materials we have used as a ‘framing’ feature, such as the walnut within the stainless steel frame of the island, which becomes a focal point as you enter the saloon.” Another example of this discrete yet powerful design tool is the use of suede leather in the master suite which wraps in a band around the bed and the dresser, breaking up the dark wooden tone and adding a unique visual texture.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216128/image/large-2826d716edad3f2555448d016a447108.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216128"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216129/image/large-844de11220287f4293ccfa9f8fb97727.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216129">The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/119" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Horizon Yachts (Company)">Horizon</a> team worked to create an integrated design that also came with energy saving benefits, so all of the systems onboard the yacht are interconnected. “The main characteristics of a ‘smart home’ are sensitisation, connectivity and interoperability, and this is what we have worked to employ onboard this latest FD90.” In the same way they have used smart lighting to enable the owner to remotely control temperature, lighting, appliances and therefore energy consumption. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216139/image/large-9a2f98933e880e668cfc584bf4b3aaa2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216139"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216113/image/large-65d3b9c050f41ddb9542610eca587a0d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216113">The team have mastered the use of lighting during the design of the series, Hull 14 is a perfect example of that, and here it has been honed to create changeable spaces, and to draw interest to specific elements of the design.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216121/image/large-e1fcc840d57ed0cafa25f5154782c2a4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216121">Materials have been carefully selected to enhance the style, but her designers have been cautious not to overuse those unique elements. “We selected satin, walnut and black lacquer, all of which have a depth and create a calm feeling, as the main elements to string together the spaces while black glass expands the space in different contexts. Marble is one of the highest quality options, and its use in this setting lends the yacht that additional sense of luxury.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/216112/image/large-509f861ac206d616fd42e92bec0caab8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/216112">The yacht has been designed with an enclosed skylounge and private wheelhouse accessed via a floating staircase.
