Hosted from the 27th to 28th February, the following stunning photographs were recently taken by the SYT team of some of the highlights from the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Oman. Land Rover BAR was announced the winner of the race.
This is the first time in the event’s history that a Middle Eastern country has hosted America’s Cup racing, and comes after the establishment of Oman Sail in 2008, created with the intention of encouraging a new generation of sailors in the region.
The 35th America’s Cup will be held in June 2017 on the Great Sound of Bermuda. Racing in a series of preliminary events, which are collectively known as the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series, has taken place in selected venues in 2015 and will continue this year in New York in May and Chicago in June.
The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series is raced in the AC45 class – a one-design catamaran powered by a wing sail sailed by a crew of five. In 2017, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers and Challenger Playoffs, as well as the America’s Cup Match presented by Louis Vuitton, will be raced in the new America’s Cup Class – a fast, foiling, wing-sailed catamaran, manned by six crew.
