Chief Technical Officer at Formula One’s Red Bull Racing team, Adrian Newey OBE has chosen to partner with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1097" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oyster Yachts (Company)">Oyster Yachts</a> to build his new sailing yacht. The Formula One legend has hopes of sailing the world with a new-build <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1097" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oyster Yachts (Company)">Oyster</a> 885 yacht model.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/294220/image/large-b5e7bbdfef37bf62a371d2c01fb6f637.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/294220">The 27.4-metre sailing yacht is currently in-build at the shipyard’s Southampton-based headquarters. The sailing yacht's interior derived from the drawing boards of her UK-based builder, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1097" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oyster Yachts (Company)">Oyster</a>. Showcasing a four stateroom layout, the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1097" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oyster Yachts (Company)">Oyster</a> 885 model can accommodate up to eight guests onboard, with space for a crew of four.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/294226/image/large-a8c09a5e0e146a93b2aaa6f021a6e7fe.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/294226">Commenting on the collaboration, Newey stated that working closely with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1097" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oyster Yachts (Company)">Oyster</a> Project Manager Matthew Townsend allowed him to “exercise his engineering brain” to form design solutions to personalise the yacht. Alterations have included some re-designing of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1097" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oyster Yachts (Company)">Oyster</a> 885’s interior living space to meet his requirements. In addition, a folding leaf into the aft swim platform has been added, enhancing the exterior space for alfresco dining.<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/887318824?share=copy" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe>Regarding performance, Newey was interested in moving to a more natural method of transport which drew him to the “purity of sailing”. Keen to operate a vessel that minimises generator use, Newey harnessed his design and motor racing experience to create a hard top bimini.
