Inside Lürssen’s brand new 111m motor yacht TIS

Written by

Lürssen’s new 111-metre TIS is the latest in the German shipyard’s fleet of 100-metre plus projects. Although the yard has delivered nearly twice as many yachts in the sub-90-metre size bracket, there is no doubt that the builder remains the global leader in the construction of the world’s largest yachts. Following a string of modern 100-metre projects from Lürssen (Al Lusail, Amadea, Crescent, Flying Fox), TIS was created with a traditional feel to surprise her guests with the ornate decor and intricate details found on board. And who better to execute such a detailed and period-style theme than the design masters at Winch Design. Having taken on the holistic design of the project from the grand and timeless exterior to the opulent interior spaces, the ‘Winch touch’ is evident in every corner of TIS. “The design brief was for TIS to feel light, fresh and open, but with a classical twist,” explains Lürssen. With a beam of 16.85 metres and her 4,500 GT volume, the sheer space inside the yacht became one of the key ingredients to convincingly convey the grand and magical ambience the designers were after. The yacht was built to PYC classification to accommodate up to 18 guests in comfort. The nine cabins are spread across three decks, ending in the pièce de résistance that is the owner’s apartment on the upper deck. Each of the eight guest suites are tastefully decorated to represent a unique geographical region from around the world, starting with Provence and China Seas on the lower deck together with Russian Dacha and Tuscany. The first are the only two cabins that can be converted into either a single-bed setup or standard double arrangement. The China Seas suite is decorated in a soft mint green colour palette finished with canvas textured walls and bamboo side tables. Tis yacht stateroomPhoto: Winch Design

Guests are transported to London, Paris, New York and Marrakech when visiting the remaining four guest suites on the main deck. With a strong influence from Claridges’ style, the London suite is adorned with a rich white and blue theme with touches of mahogany. Marrakech is one of the most colourful suites with its deep pink accents and mother of pearl inserts. Tis yacht stateroomPhoto: Winch DesignTis yacht stateroomPhoto: Winch Design

The owner’s deck extends far beyond the panoramic forward-facing stateroom with its life-sized skylight. Inviting shades of cream, tranquil sage greens and precious metals make this is one of the most relaxed areas on board. The deck also comes with a private hair and beauty salon, massage room and separate his and hers bathrooms. Private balconies on either side of the stateroom provide direct access to the side deck and more importantly, a cosy outdoor lounge area that is shaded with detachable biminis. It is also from the strengthened foredeck where guests can board a helicopter for a speedy transfer to shore or neighbouring yacht in the vicinity. Moving aft along the upper deck, you come across an intimate Parisian-inspired tea room that has been elaborately decorated with Louis XVI-inspired sofas and armchairs. Pastel greens, purples and pinks give this space an undeniably feminine atmosphere which is echoed in the curtain trims and scatter cushions.Tis yacht saloonPhoto: Winch Design

Another interior highlight has to be the onboard cinema finished in a fitting dark art deco style where an arrangement of oversized armchairs and sofas make up the foundation of many nights of indulgent Hollywood entertainment. Adding a James Bond feel to the cinema room is the glass corridor through which guests are led to reach it, passing the sound-proofed engine room.Tis yacht cinemaPhoto: Winch DesignTis yacht hallway

Speaking of the engine room, it is here where TIS hides her twin 3,200 kW engines which are good for a top speed of 18 knots. More impressively is the 7,000-nautical mile range that comes with her 12-knot cruising speed, making TIS a true ocean cruiser. To keep all those intricate decorations and ornaments in place, a sophisticated zero-speed stabiliser system that extends from the hull can be engaged while underway or at anchor. Tier III conversion-ready, TIS’ exhaust system is equipped with HUG particle filters and soot burners, providing better fuel efficiency whilst emitting fewer emissions. In addition, a special heat recovery system saves energy by using heat loss from the generators for heating the pool.Tis yacht navigation deskTis yacht engine room
