Today we sat down with James Roy and Matteo Magherini of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral Naval Architects</a> to find out more about the design which was officially unveiled today at the <a href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2021">Monaco Yacht Show 2021</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/193223/image/large-6bc85a3d09df455c3e9500bc15570b12.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/193223">A lot has been mentioned about the sustainability of this yacht, what does that word really mean for your team?For us at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral</a> and the entire team, Kairos is all about sustainability, sustainability in its truest sense. By that we mean authenticity in promoting what we are able to create. Kairos is able to operate 70 percent of the day with zero percent output, zero discharge from the boat, which we recognise is fantastic, but the aim is net zero 100 percent of the time, we are not there yet. What this collaborative effort has tried and succeeded in creating is something that is capable of respecting its environment. As James said, "We aspire to be total zero, but that does not yet exist. We can be local zero, and that is what we have created".In the coming years we are absolutely going to see cruising grounds demanding zero emissions. The Norwegian government has already implemented that regulation by 2026, which is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. It is absolutely integral for us as designers to be create something that will still be usable in the years to come as these regulations change, and that is what we have worked toward with this yacht concept.If we are looking to future proof our yachts it is about more than the materials we use, and as technology develops we have to be able to develop with it. It will be very interesting in the coming years to see what sustainable solution takes the lead and I predict that very soon batteries will become far more capable and efficient than they are today.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/206884/image/large-58f118ab61a3ee146ae8da73e61725e2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/206884">Who do you think will be the kind of owner that goes for a concept like Kairos?We did not imagine an ideal client and then create this yacht around that person. What we have created here is a concept that will appeal to more people, possibly younger people, who are more sustainability centric and who are looking for a different way to understand yachting.&nbsp;Aside from the sustainability side of things, the yacht has been designed for a different style of interaction between guests and owners. There are modulated areas for different types of interaction with the spaces, crew are not segregated and hidden. These features will appeal to a different kind of owner, one who wants more interaction and more involvement. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/206883/image/large-f8192abef3fccaa3816efd10fb89b2dd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/206883">This partnership with&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4640" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pininfarina (Company)">Pininfarina</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/64" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Oceanco (Company)">Oceanco</a>, do you see other fruitful ventures between you in the future?&nbsp;Absolutely, we are already working on other projects as a collaboration through the NXT think tank. For us this is really the essence of Kairos. Success with this concept will not be measured by whether or not she sells. It has been two years of work to understand how these shapes and forms could come together on a boat and form a synergy. The materials will be complex and exiting to work with, but it is this collaboration which has been the fruit, particularly a collaboration which is entirely centred around the conversation of sustainability. It is very exciting!

UK-based design house <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/223" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dixon Yacht Design (Company)">Dixon Yacht Design</a> has released the renderings for the 33.12-metre sailing yacht concept Mini Juno. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6168" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Francesco Struglia Design (Company)">Francesco Struglia Design</a> has unveiled his latest yacht concept, the 61-metre Necklace, inspired by jewellery and featuring the designers eye-catching asymmetric design style. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/269398/image/large-5700f19143bef216cc8b57ab374a94af.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/269398">The superyacht offers two huge common areas. The first is a semi-open space of 320 square-meters on the main deck, with opening terraces, extendable to 400 square-meters, and with a gym and beach club aft. The second enclosed saloon area of 180 square-meters is situated on the upper floor, with a double-height greenhouse in the forward lounge area.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/269396/image/large-c42ba9184aebcbc14a33526bc0fd2bd8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/269396">Necklace can accommodate as many as 16 guests, with the owner's apartment on the upper deck featuring a 100 square-metre private terrace and excellent views. Yacht design studio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7141" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Turbulence Design (Company)">Turbulence Design</a> has unveiled renderings for a new 75-metre superyacht concept, Lang-Ching or 朗清舸. According to the Germany/China-based studio Lang-Ching is a bold combination of traditional Chinese aesthetics and modern yacht design ideas. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/269238/image/large-28e699dd7fb4cbf7e582fd30c8d39b59.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/269238">“The name Lang-Ching, Chinese written as 朗清舸, comes from a piece of well-known Chinese calligraphy work Lantingji Xu (兰亭集序/"Orchid Pavilion Preface"), which was written in the fourth century AD about a elegant party with celebrities. The bold motor yacht sees a collaboration between France-based design studio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7105" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Silvia Iraghi Interiors (Company)">Silvia Iraghi</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6643" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Coquine![design] (Company)">coquine![design]</a> to create an impressive superyacht concept.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/265332/image/large-d980f0bae07c9ad4ce4e12b0dc458085.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/265332">Steamer 888 takes inspiration from the Art-Deco skyscraper, known as the Chrysler Building, on the East Side of Manhattan in New York City, USA. “Steamer 888 picks up on the Art-Deco vibes and the streamline design of the thirties, with a strong influence from nautical themes,” explained designer Christian Leyk.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/265333/image/large-692ae95dad87b05099d5c6e0b270bff1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/265333">“We decided on a sleek and fairly narrow fast displacement hull, for efficient long distance cruising at a reasonable speed. The yacht was extensively rewired and re-plumbed, demanding the disassembly of the yacht's interiors.
