Isle of Man Yacht Forum holds first International Conference

The Isle of Man Yacht Forum, in association with the Isle of Man Ship and Aircraft Registers, held its first international conference in London on 2nd September. The objective of the conference was to present the many benefits Isle of Man for yacht and aircraft management and registration to industry professionals from around the world. The event was held in the prestigious Barclay’s Wealth building in Canary Wharf, London, who sponsored the conference.

Over 150 people were in attendance at the one-day event to hear representatives from the Island’s superyacht and aircraft management industry present sessions on a wide range of topics including corporate structuring, ship and aircraft registration, VAT and taxation and crew issues.

In addition to the Isle of Man representatives, specialists from the superyacht and aviation world took part as speakers and breakout group moderators.

The event was supported and attended by key representatives from the relevant departments of the Isle of Man Government, including the Directors of the Ship and Aircraft Registries, Income Tax and the Collector of Customs and Excise, who took to the stage to highlight the many solutions that the Isle of Man can provide clients in superyacht and aircraft registration and management. This reinforced the message of the strength of the public and private partnership which exists to make the Isle of Man so successful in these areas.

Said Mike Dean, Marketing Co-coordinator of the Forum: “This was the first conference organised by the Forum and its objective was to showcase the broad range of skills and knowledge of the Island’s service providers in addition to the many benefits of the Island for yacht and aircraft registration and management. We used case studies so that the main topics of the presentations had a logical, consistent and concise theme and possible problems could be addressed and solutions provided. We were also able to comment on the very latest industry news by having taxation and Customs and Excise specialists on hand.

“The conference was very well received by those who attended and we will be looking to expand on this success in the future.”

The Hon David Cretney, MHK, Minister for Trade and Industry commented: “We were very keen to support the event in order to promote the many benefits of doing business with the Isle of Man Ship and Aircraft registers to existing and potential customers in London. Furthermore, events like this can only enhance the excellent relationships that my Department enjoys with local companies in the superyacht and aviation sectors. Going forward, the opportunity to share ideas and solutions will become increasingly invaluable.

“We were really pleased to be associated with such a well-organised and well-attended event. The conference enabled industry specialists to discuss some of the major challenges and opportunities they face and how the Isle of Man at the forefront of developments in the industry can provide Isle of Man solutions and structures to serve the needs of the growing yacht and aircraft industries.”
