ISS (International Superyacht Society) announced a revitalization of its Crew Training Seminars held annually on Friday during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This year, this critical educational forum is being presented in cooperation with MIASF (Marine Industries Association of South Florida), has been expanded dramatically and features sessions for entry level crew, licensed and experienced crew, yachting industry professionals, owners, companies, crew placement firms, marinas, and more.
Held on October 26 in the Bahia Mar Hotel Ballroom from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm and due to the tremendous support in time, effort and financial contributions of event sponsorship, admission is free as is lunch for registered attendees.
Keenly aware of the all industry mandate to attract additional workforce, ISS and MIASF have also created a Mini Job Fair that is being promoted to companies and placement agencies seeking recruits as well as to colleges, vocational schools and high schools.
Inspiration for the revamping of ISS’s crew training sessions comes directly from an increasingly global presence. According to Lance Cushion, ISS President, “While the educational platform has always been a cornerstone of the ISS mission, with an increasing number of superyachts and an industry that becomes more and more global each day, it is of critical importance to support our customers with qualified crew and enough of them!”
Yacht Industry Training Seminars is structured by offering two concurrent morning sessions from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon, a luncheon from 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm, and two afternoon sessions from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm: one being the job fair, the other a repeat of one morning presentation. Specific information for each educational subject is presented below.

This complete and well rounded approach to making the day memorable and the information valuable is only made possible by a co-operative and dedicated team funded by the critical component of sponsorship. A new educational supporter, ISS Bronze Sponsor, Royal Huisman, has stepped up their support of ISS this year by recognizing the immense value of educating future crew. Again and again, the world renowned superyacht builder wins industry awards, associate accolades and an amazing roster of clientele. Yet the company is keenly aware that their success depends on venues such as Yacht Industry Training Seminars.
As if on cue and critical to providing what a superyacht needs by way of smooth operation, an equally important ISS Bronze Sponsor has come on board in support of the occasion. The Yacht Crew Registry is an international yacht crew placement agency representing professional captains and crew for the maintenance and operation of sail and motor yachts worldwide.
In addition to these exciting and financially significant sponsors, ISS has enjoyed the unwavering contribution for multiple years of the following companies: American Yacht Institute, Crew Network, Interlux, Lewis Marine Supply, Inc., Maritime Professional Training, MIASF, Show Management, The Crew Report, and Westrec Marinas.
In 2007, ISS has been the recipient of further invaluable involvement by one of the yachting industries most dynamic organizations, MIASF. With their highly competent professionals willing to lend time and energy to the event, many of the administrative tasks necessary to coordinating an undertaking of this measure are being handled adroitly. MIASF’s contribution includes co-marketing, online registration, job board posting, collateral development, liaising with area schools and media, supplying on-site support and many other tasks that provide underpinnings to ISS’s education committee.
Yacht Industry Training Seminars, Luncheon & Job Fair is open to the entire industry, interested media and owners.
