There has been a significant uptick in sales of Italian superyachts this year with €2.8 billion penned into order books, marking an all-time high for the Italian pleasure boat sector.To determine the growth as merely a post-lockdown rebound doesn’t do justice to the phenomenon, a survey conducted by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6533" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Confindustra Nautica (Company)">Confindustria Nautica</a> confirms. There are a number of factors involved, including an increase in boat yard exports and the stellar performance of the boating equipment and marine engine segments. The Italian industry’s estimated overall turnover increase is 23.8 percent for 2021, determining a total value of €5.5- €6 billion. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/210768/image/large-5a0e97f9f162fb3cb573dd5cbd1827d9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/210768"> The survey, which was carried out on a sample of member companies, brought to light that there have been clear developments in both nautical tourism companies and those manufacturing and delivering industrial components. To talk figures, the sample from the yachting sector indicated a 44 percent growth in turnover and 41 percent estimated growth in contracts. Meanwhile, those representing accessories and engine components reported similar trends.&nbsp;The key takeaway is that these estimates lead to the likely conclusion of around a $4.8 billion global and combined turnover this year, mirroring that of the last one.&nbsp;Much as any other industry, nautical tourism has been clobbered by supply chain issues, spurred on by the effects of the pandemic and subsequent downturn of international travel. The survey revealed that around 57 percent of the sample in the ports and services sector reported a reduction in turnover. Those in the business of charter have been hit the hardest and 82 percent of those who took part in the survey reported a decline in their turnover – notably, two out of three businesses reported a drop exceeding 20 percent.&nbsp;Nonetheless, and even with these global issues, Italy has confirmed its worldly status in the superyacht sector for 2021. Around half of all yachts in the above 24 metre category are being managed by Italian-based builders: out of the 821 yachts from this category currently under construction, 407 are Italian. A momentous achievement for Italy, as this is the largest number of Italian yachts under construction in the same year since 2009.&nbsp;To put this in perspective, according to <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yachting-intelligence" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">SYT iQ</a>, Italy holds the lion’s share of new yachts sold with over 50 percent of global orders over 24 metres. Benchmarked against the nation’s own success last year, Italy has seen a growth of 0.3 percent in 2021, which equates to an increase of nine yachts over 24 metres sold this year.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6532" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ITA (Company)">ITA</a> is the governmental agency that supports the business development of Italian companies abroad and at home. It does this by providing information, assistance, consulting, promotion and training to small and medium-sized Italian businesses. ITA primarily focuses on boosting the flow of exports and invoices between Italy and the rest of the world.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6533" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Confindustra Nautica (Company)">Confindustria Nautica</a> is the Italian Marine Industry Association and an active member of the General Confederation of Italian Industry and has been representing the interests of the boating industry since 1967. Extensively refitted in 2019, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2803" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Revelry54.3m (178'2&quot;)Amels2012">Revelry</a> received further upgrades in 2020. She features an exterior design by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tim Heywood Design Ltd. Across her six staterooms including a full-beam master suite located on the main deck, two double, a twin, and two convertibles, she can accommodate up to 12 guests.
