44m ketch Juliet relaunched following hybrid propulsion conversion

The 43.58-metre ketch Juliet has been relaunched following a hybrid conversion, which commenced in 2019, by Huisfit at Royal Huisman Shipyard in Amsterdam. Originally launched in 1993 by Royal Huisman, Juliet has sailed almost a quarter of a million miles globally throughout her lifetime.Juliet sailing yacht at Royal HuismanJuliet sailing yacht in refitJuliet’s refit will allow her to cruise with a hybrid propulsion system, which will produce zero-emissions and will operate in silence. Central to her new electric propulsion system is a new gearbox, which is aligned with an electric motor and generates power for indirect propulsion. While underway, Juliet will generate power by harnessing energy from the rotation of her propeller. This energy will be stored in batteries and will be used at anchor in place of traditional generators.Juliet sailing yacht in refitJuliet sailing yacht in refitThe same hybrid propulsion system featured on Juliet has been implemented on Royal Huisman sailing yachts such as the 58-metre Ethereal and 52-metre ketch Elfje. On Juliet’s recent refit, Royal Huisman’s CEO Jan Timmerman comments, “Huisfit is offering a number of smart green solutions to reduce the use of energy onboard superyachts with 20th century technology.”Juliet yacht cruisingPhoto: Jonathan Allan
