It takes preparation with the yacht owners but also with the builders and class when undergoing annual refits and services. I worked across the Mediterranean and the US and met Dominika six years ago when we worked onboard together. Then, in 2020, we decided to move away from crewing and start the company. I first started it on my own, and once I had more work, we built it together. In the beginning, we just had one yacht and were doing charters. Then, step by step, friends and colleagues in our network started to refer us. It brought us many new clients who were scared of conventional travel and turned toward the yachting industry. The charter season of 2022 was an excellent season for us. Being ex-crew members has been so beneficial for us in building our company, as we began by utilising our existing yachting network.Antoni: Being a young company, in the beginning, it took some time to gain the trust of brokers and clients and go through all the correct processes and certifications, but we are there now and are much more established. Transitioning into yacht brokerage felt like a natural progression for us. While we had to learn the professional aspects of brokerage, our first-hand experience onboard gives us a deep understanding of crew dynamics and technical operations. When we assist in selling or purchasing a yacht, we discuss all aspects with the crew and go onboard the vessel, allowing us to give an in-depth technical perspective that sets us apart. For example, the friend of an owner who was the first seller of the first boat we sold is how we transitioned into sales. We always knew we wanted to do sales, but we started with charter and then it developed. Our big goal at the moment is to get more yachts in our portfolio above 60 metres for charter to allow us to have more yachts to propose to our clients.&nbsp;Dominika: We have quite a lot of clients that come back to us each year since we began, which is great. In terms of the clients requesting charters, we have definitely experienced the wave of the younger generation entering the industry. We work closely with a lot of Captains and have built these relationships, so a lot of our business comes from these referrals. We have quite a big CA charter listing for an agency our size. When I go to check out a boat for a client, I always talk to the Captain and analyse the technical side and look into how it has been maintained.&nbsp;Dominika: Combining our charter crewing experience with our fresh approach is what sets us apart. We have a genuine passion for what we do, and we hope to bring a younger, more dynamic perspective to the brokerage industry through ourselves and by building our team out. In 2024, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1546" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Alexseal Yacht Coatings (Company)">Alexseal Yacht Coatings</a> celebrates its 20 year anniversary, and this is an excellent time to take a look back at the company's mission, the first steps, and what lies ahead for the next two decades. Under the slogan 'It's about time', the company started at Mankiewicz in March 2004 as a global paint manufacturer to help shape the market for high-end yacht coatings. In the more than 125-year history of Mankiewicz, a few products had already been used in boatbuilding over the decades.At the beginning of the 2000s, there was a comprehensive vision: a complete portfolio under the name <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1546" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Alexseal Yacht Coatings (Company)">Alexseal Yacht Coatings</a> was to be launched. There are an incredible number of industries where the highest demands are placed on the finish, the surfaces to be painted are rarely as large and demanding as on a superyacht," says Thomas. "In car and aircraft painting, a comparably good finish is essential, although the design of a car or aircraft is much more forgiving in terms of the visual appearance of the finished surface."&nbsp;This is because vehicles only very rarely have large, completely flat surfaces. For example, the fuselage of an airplane is enormous and is painted by several painters at the same time. But it is still round, and the passengers "only" expect an extremely high gloss, not a mirror-like surface. "Especially on large yachts, we have comparably huge but almost flat surfaces on the hull. This is an extreme challenge, even for professional painters. If the performance of the topcoat is not at 100%, you cannot achieve a mirror-like surface appearance. To develop and produce yacht coatings at the highest level, you must know how to do your homework right from the beginning.Suppose you look at all five layers of a yacht coating. In that case, you come up with a vast bundle of functional and optical properties that must be fulfilled: DOI and UV resistance are just the tip of the requirements iceberg, extending deep into adhesion, sand-ability and polish-ability. "Painting conditions vary significantly worldwide and also play a crucial role. Almost everything is possible, from construction site environments to clean rooms and from cold, dry environments to warm, humid ones. The coating portfolio must be able to map all of this with suitable systems.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/267888/image/large-650b618a2a3247335cff7624bd0e4800.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/267888">Challenges: Sought, found, solved"At the beginning, it was a very complex and exciting challenge to enter this market and put together a suitable portfolio," recalls the yacht expert. "But what made life much easier for us was the wealth of experience that we, as the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1546" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Alexseal Yacht Coatings (Company)">Alexseal</a> team at the company Mankiewicz, could draw on. There have been some synergies in terms of development, and we have gained experience with high-gloss and robust surfaces over time since our foundation in 1895 as a paint manufacturer."Mankiewicz's markets and product lines show clear parallels. The global coating manufacturer is firmly anchored in the aviation industry, which has taken the exterior painting of aircraft to a new level with innovative coating systems. The rail sector is also concerned with large exterior surfaces with visually and functionally highly sophisticated finishes."Of course, this was and still is worth its weight in gold for developing our yacht portfolio. "Nevertheless, despite the many advantages, it was difficult to win the first major projects at the beginning," explains the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1546" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Alexseal Yacht Coatings (Company)">Alexseal</a> pioneer. "Confidence in our set-up is one thing, but experience with the right paint job in the dock is another. We first had to earn our spurs."&nbsp;In 2004, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1546" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Alexseal Yacht Coatings (Company)">Alexseal</a> was brought to market first in Australia and the United States. After yacht painters and shipyards had noticed the first results, the first inquiries came from Europe, especially the Netherlands, in the second year, while in America, demand continued to grow steadily. WHF designs and manufactures interior home furnishings in the Mission and Craftsman styles utilising reclaimed barn wood, leather, copper and steel. We sell to furniture dealers, interior designers, hospitality and residential and offer full custom options.&nbsp;In 2009, we were creating custom furniture pieces for a residential remodel in Utah while working with an interior design firm. They had an existing Jupe style table that they wanted to incorporate into the design, but it had warped making it non-functional. We took on the challenge to design and build a new table that would remain stable for years to come and the result is the Lotus Table. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/310749/image/large-97263ba060be2bae2a7adc49c75d414f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/310749">Can you explain how the table works and why it is so unique and in demand?&nbsp;Round dining tables have, and I believe always will, remain the best choice for maximising space and seating capacity. Additionally, the circle is a universal symbol of totality and&nbsp;wholeness that creates movement towards unity and equitable relationships. In its mechanism, the Lotus table expands on a locking carousel, meaning that you can open and close the table from one place instead of having to walk around and unfold each section in situ. First you pull each pie out and unfold each leaf, then push the leaf into the centre and then each pie to lock it all in place. What we perfected is the precision milling and assembly needed for smooth operation and leaf seam consistency. We approached this challenge by minutely breaking down each process and subtracting wasted motions or adding valuable details. We then researched and developed the best materials available today and added specific CNC technologies to execute the precision required.&nbsp;Can you tell us more about the capabilities of your craftsmen and the intricacies of the furniture&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7636" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lotus Woodworks (Company)">Lotus Woodworks</a>&nbsp;produces?&nbsp;Our craftsmen are unique in the woodworking industry due to the focus and endurance each table requires. This entire process typically takes 5-7 weeks of pure devotion to many precision and repetitive tasks. Our tables are marathon projects that can only be managed by a craftsman with an exceptional mental fortitude.&nbsp;In addition, we offer a delivery and instalment service to US-based clients because we truly value the customer experience. Lotus Woodworks: The ultimate bespoke superyacht tables 

In 2021 the marine fuel supplier and bunkering specialist rebranded its entire organisation with the view to become a sustainable fuel supplier and in their own words, “become part of the solution, rather than the problem.” In line with this major transition, the company has refocused on becoming an energy supplier – whatever that energy may be, and has created a new brand removed from petroleum. A well documented and increasingly popular fuel within the superyacht sector, the use of HVO has a myriad of benefits, not least the fact that it is a drop-in fuel, meaning that it can be used within any diesel combustion engine, and that it can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90 percent.&nbsp;However, not all HVO is equal, both in terms of environmental impact and quality. Over the past three years, the company has invested heavily in the R&amp;D around HVO, finding that Second Generation HVO, made from non-food bio-feedstocks such as waste cooking oil, or agricultural residue, are more sustainable in the longer term. The team has also learnt that top quality HVO from Second Generation sources is a more premium fuel than conventional diesel, offering more power per MT, a more complete combustion and exceptional stability.&nbsp;As a result of their research, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6366" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Peninsula Petroleum Ltd (Company)">Peninsula</a> has now branded its own HVO product, BFuture, which is premium HVO fuel that has passed a series of specifications established by the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6366" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Peninsula Petroleum Ltd (Company)">Peninsula</a> team in collaboration with the major marine engine manufacturers. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/308254/image/large-193fd3be5edb538da47e44cd85870bff.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/308254">How does BFuture differ?While there are a number of sustainability and quality criteria that HVO and bio-fuels must adhere to, there are many different categories and specifications that those fuels apply to. Superyachts, as complex luxury vessels, should demand the highest quality of HVO and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6366" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Peninsula Petroleum Ltd (Company)">Peninsula</a>’s Biofuels Desk has developed specific parameters to identify the highest quality HVO to be branded under BFuture.&nbsp;Over recent years, while HVO has gradually been recognised within yachting, captains and management teams have had a number of questions about its use for superyachts. With one issue being the price point, HVO does come at a higher premium than conventional fuels, the more important consideration is whether it poses a risk to superyacht operations, with captains often erring on the side of caution when it comes to incorporating new products for their yachts.&nbsp;What <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6366" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Peninsula Petroleum Ltd (Company)">Peninsula</a> has derived to do with BFuture, is to offer a product that not only comes with all of the benefits of HVO, but that is also tailored to the specific needs of the OEMs (original equipment manufacturer). The resulting fuel is a product that is not only a premium HVO, but that is actually a premium superyacht fuel that is ISCC EU certified and approved by the engine manufacturers. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/308261/image/large-9638cb6a3e2d5ba83fb89534125975d2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/308261">What are the benefits of BFuture?As already mentioned, the use of Second Generation HVO offers up to 90 percent lower carbon emissions than regular diesel, and offers a higher energy content meaning more power per metric tonne. This is combined with a more complete combustion due to a high cetane number (75-99 compared to 40-55 for diesel), together meaning a more efficient burn and more miles per metric tonne.&nbsp;In addition, BFuture has exceptional oxidation stability, meaning that it can be stored for periods of minimum 15 years, and a minimal water content and low water solubility virtually eliminating the risk of microbial contamination when sitting within the yacht’s tanks. In practical terms, for captains and chief engineers this means that the fuel can sit within the tank during winter layups without the risk of bacteria growth that can delay refit periods and do serious damage to the yacht’s components.&nbsp;From a visual perspective, BFuture also reduces the black exhaust output that leaves an oily discharge on the aft of the vessel. That lack of black exhaust smoke also improved the guest experience when underway and when the generators are running. Then from the technical perspective, the yacht’s filters remain far cleaner than with conventional diesel, meaning less maintenance.&nbsp;As an ISCC EU Certified company, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6366" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Peninsula Petroleum Ltd (Company)">Peninsula</a> provides yachts with sustainability declarations that they can use to measure the reductions they have made by opting for BFuture. In a recent series of interviews, we sat down with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Enrico Gobbi</a> of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Team for Design</a> and Francesco Carbone, General Manager of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a>, to hear more about the new project.&nbsp;<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sdAuHwuJCWo?&amp;wmode=opaque" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> Volumes of StyleOver the past few years, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Team for Design</a> has worked closely with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> on the development of the Gran Tourismo 45 and the ISA Gran Turismo 80 (currently in-build). Sleek and sporty superyachts, both models feature a stylish exterior inspired by the automotive industry, appealing to those discerning owners who are looking for a sporty exterior aesthetic. In 2023, Mr Palumbo approached <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Gobbi</a> and the team, to propose a further collaboration, Enrico explains, “The goal was to create a parallel line to the Gran Turismo line, that featured a large interior volume, but that was consistent in terms of its stylish exterior lines and automotive aesthetics.”Before setting out to create the new line, the team set about a deep dive analysis of the market with the goal to create a yacht that offered more space than was currently available. The challenge was to provide more volume, while still offering a beautiful exterior that didn’t become heavy. The first result of this new collaboration is the Unica 40, a yacht characterised by its large volumes, spacious decks and large expanses of glass, all encased within a stylish and streamlined exterior profile. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306880/image/large-e90ce67b9f5f40f6fce8f2d75b42a104.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306880">Francesco Carbone explains, “Over the past two years we’ve had a lot of requests for an aluminium yacht that featured the eye-catching, sporty <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a> style and that could make the ideal second vessel for the new generation of owners. Working with Gobbi was an obvious choice because he understands the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a> brand so well, and we think the result is a very exciting proposition for our clients, in fact, we’ve already had a lot of interest in this new project”Utilising some clever design features, the yacht’s volumes are hidden and her lines create a sleek profile with the use of elongated decks that have a tapering overhang. The flydeck, which is one of the longest available in her size range, is a perfect example, with an elegant overhang that maximises the available space and low glass bulwarks for unbroken panoramic views.&nbsp;The second design tool that accentuates the yacht’s sporty profile is the expansive use of glass across all decks. “The creation of panoramic views and bright interior spaces are extremely important for today’s owners. There should be no compromise on the windows and we worked hard to ensure that they are unobstructed throughout the yacht. The master stateroom features very large windows with only a slim stylistic bar across, meaning that the views are enormous.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306884/image/large-32a712bda5a01865feb9395e0f61885a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306884">Abundant ExteriorsOne of the most notable features of the Unica 40 is her beach area. Unlike many models on the market that have squeezed an interior beach club into a 40 metre platform, the Unica 40 instead focuses on available deck space. The tiered aft area with each level offering the guest a unique experience. From the main deck with its lounge area, guests step down to the pool, then to a series of sunpads and then onto the swim platform, which folds down from the transom to expand the area right onto the water.&nbsp;Carbone adds, “The aft area is both open and private, which was an early initiative from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> and really sets the model apart from other yachts in her segment. We wanted to create an intimate environment that is safe and enjoyable for all ages.” With the lounge and pool area on the aft deck, it is the upper deck that has been utilised for guest entertainment, with a spacious lounge area and large table. Configured with free standing furniture, the team has imagined an array of customisable configurations that owners can tailor to their own wishes. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306882/image/large-395234e3a19e2203859f310dbbb5b656.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306882">As mentioned above, her flydeck is a standout feature and the space has been further maximised by an asymmetric design with flowing organic forms that utilise every square metre of the space. To the aft are spacious sunpads, with a bar and Jacuzzi to port and a dining area to the starboard side. Gobbi explains, “The asymmetric design was an obvious choice for the flydeck, creating a flow from aft to fore. We have also made some careful choices with the furniture height; the sun pads are low so that they do not obstruct the views from the bar, while the Jacuzzi has panoramic views.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306885/image/large-d693b7c68a3ddbdae940f39006df5e1e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306885">Elegant Interiors&nbsp;While the yacht’s exterior decks are spacious and diverse, her interior is elegant and homely. When first stepping into the main saloon of the Unica 40, the visual oval detail in the ceiling with its central light source, as well as the floating marble stairwell amidships, that draws the eye through the saloon and acts as a clever lengthening design detail. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306879/image/large-e1eafa85a777d6412814f226b66035a1.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306879">Featuring a minimalist design with organic forms, both in the furniture and in the ceiling feature, the saloon is bright and spacious, with a lounge area to port and a dining area to the fore. Like the exterior decks, stylish loose furniture has been arranged around the space, which can be customised to suit the owners wishes. In the concept interior however, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> has opted for a muted and oceanic colour scheme with grey, taupe and blue, though there are also many customisable elements, including the wood choice, fabrics and loose furnishings. Carbone adds, “In regards to the yacht’s interior styling, once an owner becomes involved we will be very open for customisations and personalisations to the design.”Passing through the saloon, the extraordinary stairwell is backed by reflective glass doors leading through to the master stateroom. The effect of this reflective surface gives the impression of infinite space when within the saloon and further elongates the space. “We carefully studied the light and the perspectives, experimenting with materials and creating subtly lit panels that help to create a luxurious and comfortable ambience.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306878/image/large-35e2da391f017b4c46cb5e0b105b02ae.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306878">The yacht’s master stateroom is a work of art, and looks as though it belongs on a yacht of 60, rather than 40 metres. Utilising once again the asymmetric layout, the space is opened up and once again sightlines have been prioritised through the stateroom to the ensuite. Upon entrance, the owner has a clear path to his and hers bathrooms, with the bed situated on the port side and a spacious, open area to starboard. Gobbi adds, “Speaking with owners, we found that although many love the look of the centralised bed, they also feel that it takes away a huge amount of space that could be better utilised for a seating area or office. Here we have created a flow through the stateroom and the huge windows on both sides flood the room with light.” Featuring a 60 inch TV hidden with a mirrored surface, the team has once again employed reflective surfaces to cleverly open the space and give this voluminous yacht even more space.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306881/image/large-099d7190cd34dc9b333c242b304308f6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306881">The Unica 40 is the perfect addition to ISA’s successful superyacht line and with engineering already underway and a 24-month build schedule from keel laying, we can expect to see this spectacular yacht gracing the global fleet in coming years.

The system enables the process of renewing lighting solutions onboard with minimal waste. Hafner, CEO of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5966" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="iYacht GmbH Yacht design & Engineering (Company)">iYacht</a>. “She initially began as a simple refit, but quickly evolved into a major conversion. Leveraging the expertise of our studio, we were able to support the owner and the yard in every phase.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/312930/image/large-d952680d050d41cdb88d4ad2008fb704.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/312930">In June 2020, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5966" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="iYacht GmbH Yacht design & Engineering (Company)">iYacht</a> created a 3D model of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3964" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Thanuja49.9m (163'9&quot;)Concept Marine2011">Thanuja</a>, with the proposal to overhaul her foredeck, extend her stern with a swim platform, redesign her galley and add a Jacuzzi to her flybridge. As well as this, a large Z-lift was to be implemented, which gave the opportunity to completely redesign the beach club. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/312920/image/large-a3dbef80790fd245c805bf793e3552d7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/312920">A comprehensive analysis of the superyacht then prompted the team, which included the owner's representative and project manager, to expand the refit's scope. “As the project complexity grew it required us to bring in additional expertise from different disciplines,” added Udo A. Hafner.
