Legend departs Holland on her maiden voyage

Written by Gemma Fottles

Following an extensive refit at Icon Yachts which saw her transformed into an impressive ice-breaking passengership, the 77.4 metre vessel Legend left the Dutch yard’s facilities in Harlingen just last night. She is currently making her way across the North Sea to Norway, where she will receive her very first guests for what is bound to be a unique charter experience.

Diana Yacht Design undertook the redesign of her exterior areas as well as her naval architecture, whilst Thom Beerens and Jan Verkerk were responsible for her interior design. The project was first announced to the industry back in September 2014, with the launch of the vessel being celebrated just three months ago.

Amongst the daunting list of works undertaken, her stern was lengthened by 3.6 metres, whilst her mast was rebuilt and her superstructure completely redesigned to make her a sleeker, more attractive yacht for charter guests. On board amenities now include a large swimming pool and Jacuzzi, a fitness room, cinema room, bar and music corner.

Continuing with her long list of works, her hull was also repainted in an attractive dark grey, and heavy cranes were added to lift all toys and tenders one can imagine. The aft deck was transformed into a fully classified helicopter deck, and above that, she is fully Lloyd’s and SOLAS certified.

She is powered by Smit-Bolnes engines, providing her with a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots. Legend is planned to be used for adventurous charters in some of the most remote areas of the world. For charter inquiries contact Verkerk Yachting, [email protected].
