Held from the 26th September to the 4th October, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez drew to a close yesterday in France, with Maria Giovanna II winning the second day and taking the Rolex Trophy - just a point ahead yachts Namib and Stiren.
This year's regatta saw two days of sailing cancelled due to poor weather conditions, with two days of racing in total. President of the Societe Nautique de Saint-Tropez comments, “We made the best of it. We learn something new each year about the effect the elements have on proceedings and we’ll take that into account more and more in the future. The initial reactions from the competitors are positive, as they understand the difficulties we face when working with Mother Nature. The Race Committees were able to adapt to the daily problems and already we’re reflecting on the siting of the village next year as the Harbour Master’s Office is being expanded.”
The traditional awards ceremony was hosted yesterday by Mr. Schaefer, CEO of Rolex France, who presented the Rolex Trophy and Rolex watch to the crew on board Maria Giovanna II.
