Yesterday we were kindly invited to step aboard O’Khalila, a superyacht you can’t miss when you’re in Cannes this year. William Molloy of YPI Brokerage gave us the full detailed tour, taking us everywhere from the master suite to the engine room, which is loaded with three (!) MTU/Detroit DDC diesels.
Launched in 2007, O’Khalila is a 46 metre (150ft) aluminium semi-displacement motor yacht which was manufactured at Palmer Johnson Yachts. Designed by the cutting edge design house Nuvolari & Lenard, O’Khalila incorporates open yacht style, high cruising speeds and incredibly sleek lines that have helped make her one of the most eye-catching and head-turning yachts seen at this year’s Cannes Boat Show.
With her shimmering metallic gold exterior, the first PJ 150 in the Palmer Johnson Sport Yacht series is definitely a dramatic sight to see. Above all, she is a fun boat, with lots of features to amuse and entertain the owner’s family and guests.
The dramatic gold exterior is matched by the fashion-inspired interior, which is especially evident in the 5 guest cabins. The guest cabins take after the style of 5 of the biggest international fashion houses. Cavalli, Chanel, Gucci, Hermes, and Versace were the inspiration behind Nuvolari & Lenard’s exciting interior design.
With nearly 11,000hp coming from the 3 MTU’s, O’Khalila reaches a top speed of well over 30 knots with nearly full tanks. Just as important as top speed, the captain reports that the boat runs smoothly and quietly at 26 knots in a wind of Force 6 and commensurate sea-state, and with the speed down to the displacement maximum of around 12 knots, O’Khalila would just about cross the Atlantic.
O’Khalila is currently for sale in a joint listing with Merle Wood & Associates, at an asking price of US$ 22,000,000.
