Liebowitz & Pritchard have just unveiled their new concept explorer superyacht, Commodore 57. This 57-metre vessel is poised to be a contemporary classic, combining the aesthetic of historic sea-faring vessels with the robust architecture of the LP Design explorer yachts, honed during the construction of the 54.09-metre superyacht Steel, launched in 2009 at Pendennis Shipyard, Falmouth.Photo: LP DesignLike Steel, Commodore 57 gives the initial impression of an explorer yacht, transformed into a leisure vessel, but this is far from the case. Though she features a flared, wave-breaking bow and heart-shaped stern for added stability in following seas, her decks and interior include all of the features expected from a luxury superyacht. These include two spa pools, one of which is an 4.7-metre heated saltwater pool, to the aft of the main deck, situated alongside a sun lounge and bar. On the lower deck there is a beach club, inclusive of sauna and massage suite, and a stern door at the transom leading onto a teak swim platform, with a secondary platform to the port side.Photo: LP DesignLP Design have also unveiled two proposals for the interior of the superyacht, each with an opposing colour scheme, allowing the owner to customise the vessel to their personal aesthetic. There is a main deck owners suite, four guest staterooms and a glass elevator giving access to the four separate decks. Photo: LP DesignPhoto: LP Design
It is LP Design’s hope that the owner will incorporate their own furnishings into the interior layout, creating a homely and personal aesthetic. In addition, Commodore 57, with its primary focus as an explorer vessel, includes a 10.4-metre enclosed expedition tender. As Richard Leibowitz said “aside from a good bed and a creative chef, the most important tool aboard for any vacation is a capable, big tender”, and the newly named Blackthorn certainly ticks that box.
