The American yachting and boating titan <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1312" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="MarineMax (Company)">MarineMax</a> has reported its financial results for quarter one of 2023, which ended 31 December 2022. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter ended December 31, 2022 was $53.2 million, compared with $55.3 million for the same period last year. The Rosetti Marino Group, according to rumours collected by Shipping Italy and SUPER YACHT 24, may soon be due to close down its shipbuilding division. The rumours have suggested that the San Vitale shipyard in Ravenna will be acquired by the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4876" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ferretti Group (Company)">Ferretti Group</a>, but representatives from the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4876" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ferretti Group (Company)">Ferretti Group</a> have so far denied these rumours. Attempts, however, to reach out to members of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4643" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Rosetti Superyachts (Company)">Rosetti Superyachts</a>, the superyacht branch of the Rosetti Marino Group, have shown that email accounts appear to have been closed or frozen.Many in the superyacht industry have been expecting the announcement over coming months, particularly since Alberto Galassi, CEO of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4876" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ferretti Group (Company)">Ferretti Group</a> hinted at an upcoming expansion in late 2022. KPS Capital Partners acquires equity interest in Princess Yachts

KPS Capital Partners has acquired a controlling equity interest in UK-based yacht builder Princess Yachts.

According to the online publication Sky News, UK-based yacht builder <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1912" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Princess Yachts (Company)">Princess Yachts</a> is set to be acquired by KPS Capital Partners. News of the acquisition of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) (Company)">Cantiere delle Marche</a> by Austria-based FIL Bros Family Office came as something of a surprise in the yachting industry. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) (Company)">CdM</a> has been quietly growing it’s product range and market profile since it was founded by Ennio Cecchini and Vasco Buonpensiere &nbsp;in 2010. Following the management buy-out, the two co-founders now have a 25 percent share of the company (Cecchini has always been a shareholder, whereas Buonpensiere sold his 9 percent share in 2014 before buying back in). <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/247251/image/large-94022818551d36ed96c6945012c1e022.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/247251">To find out more about the acquisition, we spoke with Buonpensiere, now CEO of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) (Company)">CdM</a>, as he was preparing to fly to the US to close another new-build contract. We began by asking about the timing of the buy-out. &nbsp;VB: The first reason was that our major shareholder, Gabriele Virgili, was principally a silent investor with a core business in frozen foodstuffs. And with the energy crisis and currency markets as they are, he was looking to take a step back and focus on his family company.&nbsp;The other reason is that Ennio and I have very clear ideas about where we want to take the company. We’d been thinking about a management buy-out, but it was all in our heads until we started talking with Tom Schröder of FIL Bros at the start of 2022. Tom is building a Flexplorer 146 at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) (Company)">CdM</a> and is completely in love with the brand philosophy. He told us, “Guys, this should be your company”, and he switched on the lightbulb that led to signing a SPA (Sale and Purchase Agreement) in June, and that agreement was closed last week. By the way, we still call it a management buy-out, even though Tom is the majority shareholder with 75 percent of the company, because he’s there in a supporting role and given us complete freedom to make strategic decisions. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/195822/image/large-df4ad3c0e50adb9e90fc44b8e739b125.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/195822">It looks like we’re heading into a global recession; doesn’t this acquisition represent something of a risk for Tom Schröder?VB: You know, we’ve been through that and if you look at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) (Company)">CdM</a>’s history it’s clear that we’re a very resilient company. Since we started in 2010 there have been two quite heavy downturns, but our growth has been constant. Of course, one year can be better or worse than another, but we’ve always sold at the same pace and our performance has been very consistent. That’s because our shipyard is small and our clients are very passionate about boats who come to us with very well-defined projects. They’re not people who have made a lot of money quickly and decide to buy a boat like they would a Lamborghini. We’re just not that kind of brand. &nbsp;Tom was impressed by the way we’ve managed and protected the company; we don’t have debts, we don’t use credit lines, we don’t trade in boats, and we haven’t over-expanded. &nbsp;Of course, if we had two more sheds we could fill them now, but if the market slows down those sheds are going to empty, and right now there are simply not enough skilled people to build good boats. We’ve always kept the company small and agile on purpose, so we’ve doubled the value of production but we’re delivering the same number of boats. We’re not going to change that and Tom agrees. The idea is to build a better, not a bigger, company.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/247252/image/large-61b746cbc710710c0b918f3424926429.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/247252">What does the buy-out mean in practical terms, product design and future investment for&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2354" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantiere delle Marche (CdM) (Company)">CdM</a>? &nbsp;VB: It’s a bit of everything, meaning the main change is freedom to follow our vision. Tom is a young, proactive and passionate entrepreneur. If we told an old-style major shareholder we need to do two more boats shows per year, he might say “OK, but you need to sell two more yachts per year to pay for it.” Tom is not like that. His question is, “OK, what do you need to make it happen?” &nbsp;We have clear ideas about how to improve our market positioning. We enjoy reasonable brand awareness, which is a minor miracle considering the small budget we’ve had at our disposal, and luckily the perception is exactly what we wanted. But we want to fine-tune our positioning and that takes investment in communication, and the product itself – and this is where Ennio and I have fun. Plus the management buy-out with this particular partner will help us with the verticalization of our investment and activities.Can you give me a specific example of this verticalization?VB: We’re looking at integrating strategic suppliers into the company, for example. It goes back to what I was saying before about the lack of skilled workers and the need to safeguard that skilled workforce. We’ve always had a close relationship with our key suppliers and one of the reasons why our product quality is so consistent is thanks to the business model we have with subcontractors. So we want to take that to the next level.&nbsp;For Ennio and I, this is what we always envisaged happening. We will have more freedom and we will be able to implement a lot of things we had to sideline before. Now we really feel this is ‘our’ company, despite the fact we are minority shareholders, and I think you will see that in our strategy and products very soon.

Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a> is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year – and what a year the design studio has already had already, unveiling three new superyacht projects.&nbsp;The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/56752" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tommaso Spadolini unveils 90m superyacht concept with vast beach club (2023-01-16 13:15:00 +0100)">largest project presented was a 90-metre concept</a> which, if taken to build, would be the designer’s flagship superyacht. In a matter of weeks, after the 90-metre was showcased, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Spadolini</a> pulled the wraps off of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/57091" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Tommaso Spadolini unveils new 48m superyacht concept (2023-03-07 11:30:00 +0100)">a 48.5-metre, characterised by a semi-vertical bow</a> and very generous living space. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Article/56954" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa unveils 50m superyacht concept Codecasa Jet 50 (2023-02-16 12:00:00 +0100)">third project is the most radical</a>, designed for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> and inspired by aviation. The studio has been a hive of activities.&nbsp;SuperYacht Times caught up with the Italian designer to discover more.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/24766/image/large-df6216f2900ddcc75b7ac6ee454aac24.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/24766">Do you have any reflective thoughts after designing yachts for nearly half a century?&nbsp;Some years have been truly crucial and have seen significant changes. I have had the privilege of going through them, progressively tackling different themes, from the serial production of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/560" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Canados (Company)">Canados</a> and Aprea yachts to building <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1514" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Foners41.5m (136'2&quot;)Izar2000">Foners</a>, the fastest yacht in the world built for the King of Spain without forgetting the world of superyachts for many affectionate clients, for whom in some cases I have also designed several boats.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/254144/image/large-f745df6f4f0984c08ef4c436e33b4736.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/254144">With the release of three superyacht concepts in as many months, can we expect any more designs this year?&nbsp;In fact, perhaps also as a reaction to the difficult Covid period we have just gone through, I am in a rich design moment and I do not rule out presenting other design solutions soon.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/24753/image/large-0fae192ab2f8d9eb43ba046a7e505dc9.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/24753">Can we expect the 90m superyacht or 48m concept to be taken to build?&nbsp;For both the 90 and the 48 I worked with the requirements of a shipowner in mind; both feasibility projects are in the evaluation phase, waiting to activate the shipyard selection.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/263102/image/large-080cd09835ad3d3ae6d7f8b33c703058.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/263102">What led you to reimagine the lines of superyachts for the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a>&nbsp;Jet, incorporating designs from the aviation sector?&nbsp;The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 2020 is the brainchild of Fulvio Codecasa, who called me to collaborate on his futuristic project. Netherlands-based yacht builder <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a> has released the first renderings of its new 36.5-metre motor yacht concept, Bahamas Cruiser.
