Maritime Projects, Marimecs and Maritime Professionals evolve into MP Group

Maritime Projects - specialised Owner Representatives and Project Managers – has founded Maritime Professionals, a recruitment and outplacement agency serving the Dutch and international maritime industry. Together with the acquisition of Marimecs, a naval architecture, design and engineering firm in the yachting and commercial fields, Maritime projects has now brought all three businesses together under the MP Group.

These latest acquisitions bring three companies under one umbrella, each of which will continue their operations independently;

MP Group The need for a multi-service group

Since 2015 Maritime Projects has been active in the industry as an (interim) Project Management company serving yacht owners, shipyards and suppliers. From the owners and yards there has been a growing demand for (concept) engineering and for (temporary) addition of professionals to their in-house team. Maritime Projects is now able to answer this demand with the acquisition of Marimecs - Marine Design and Engineering and the founding of Maritime Professionals (recruitment). The addition of the experience, skills and knowledge of over 20 in-house professionals means that the MP Group is now able to offer multiple services to yards and owners.

Mr. Erik van Prooijen of the MP Group further pointed out “Flexibility is key: Maritime Projects continues to be entirely independent in its operations and has good working relationships with companies throughout the shipbuilding and design business. However, when it adds value to a project and meets a clients demand, we can now even more quickly and thoroughly advise about complex design and engineering questions, and deliver many more required services with the valuable sister companies Marimecs and Maritime Professionals.”Erik van ProoijenFounding Maritime Professionals

With many clients requesting further involvement from members of the Maritime Projects team, it became clear that there was demand for more than external project management alone. Mr. Louwerens Hoving, one of the Managing Partners from the MP Group, says: “We strongly believe that we had to found a specialised company with a dedicated manager that is fully focussed on the recruitment and outplacement of management and engineering professionals.”

Bringing 15 years of experience in staffing solutions within the maritime industry, Mr. Bas Lokhorst is the perfect man to lead this company. As the resource manager Bas will be the first point of contact for customers and candidates. Bas commented, “In this time when staff are extremely hard to find and to keep, it is of the essence to have a 100% focus on recruitment activities. With Maritime Professionals we now have established a division where this can and will be realised.”Bas lokhorstTaking over the helm at Marimecs

Willem Stolk, former director of Marimecs, is preparing to retire. MP Group has taken over the helm and has handed over the day-to-day management to Mr. Hero Hettinga, who was recently appointed as Operations Manager. Hero will lead Marimecs by example.Maritime Professionals teamIn 35 years, Willem Stolk’s team has grown to a broadly functioning full service office, allowing him to gradually step down as a director. He will continue to support the new owners to ensure a smooth transition to the new management. About the transition he remarked: “Both the team and myself are very excited about this well-found match. We already knew Maritime Projects´ work and it is pleasing to see the work continue with an owner who not only complements our line of work so closely, but also shares the no-nonsense approach and thought-through services that the Marimecs team values.¨

Erik van Prooijen added: “Much like Marimecs, we have always taken pride in our full range of services and distinct experience in complex or particularly unique projects. Our teams complement each other perfectly in terms of in-house knowledge and skills. With Marimecs, we continue to distinguish ourselves with broad experience in high-end shipbuilding and practicality in our thinking. Having in-house naval architecture, design and engineering services readily available if required makes us an even stronger partner for shipyards and owners.”

He added, "With H2Marine we consult in the development and delivery of H2 systems for yachts and workboats. We are one of the few companies that has the knowledge and experience with class-approved liquid hydrogen installations."
