MARSEC-XL Welcomes Jim Jagielski as a New Council Member

The MARSEC-XL Foundation has announced the appointment of a new council member, Jim Jagielski. “Jim has extraordinary technology and open source expertise and we are delighted that he is joining MARSEC-XL as a new council member. He brings a wealth of experience and insights that come from running a successful large global open source community,” said Krystyna Wojnarowicz, President of MARSEC-XL Foundation.

MARSEC-XL is now focusing on internationalization and promoting adoption of MARSSA, Marine Systems Software Architecture, the first open source open reference architecture for the maritime industry. With Jim onboard we are confident that we will reach out to a global audience, build a strong MARSSA community and boost innovation in the maritime industry,” commented Geir Fagerhus, CEO MARSEC-XL.

When I first learned of their efforts, via the Isle of Open Source Conference, I was amazed at the deep talent they had as well as the incredible opportunity they had in changing the maritime and open source ecosystem”, said Jagielski. Jim Jagielski is a well known and acknowledged expert and visionary in Open Source, IT and cloud computing. He is best known as one of the developers and co-founders of The Apache Software Foundation and serves as President.

He also serves on the board, as well as secretary, for the Outercurve Foundation and is a director for the Open Source Initiative (OSI). He is a frequent speaker and presenter at Open Source and Web/Cloud conferences and was recently awarded the O'Reilly Open Source Award. Jim works for Red Hat, Inc as Consulting Software Engineer under the office of the CTO.

He graduated from John Hopkins University with a BES in electrical engineering and computer science and continued on to receive his Masters and PhD. Before working at Red Hat he had worked at NASA, Zend Technologies, Covalent and VMWare.
