METS 2010: Unique carbon and wood mast from Formula Marine

Dutch mast builder, Formula Marine, a specialist in the design and engineering of masts in advanced carbon as well as building more traditional spars for yachts up to 80 metres, showed an exceptional development of its carbon technology and wood lamination at METS 2010.

A recent commission from Turkish yacht builder DSV to build wood/carbon spars for a 67 metre, 3 masted schooner has displayed the company's development skills at their best by combining cutting edge carbon technology with traditional wood design.

The booms for the yacht are being constructed with a laminate of carbon core and an exterior surface of laminated wood. The final appearance will be of a stunning, polished solid wood boom, while being super lightweight and exceptionally strong.

Formula Marine has carbon cure autoclaves at both its facilities in Holland and in France, where the Turkish booms are being built. Formula builds spars to exceptional standards for a wide range of yachts from fast race boats such as the Archambault 40 and Ker 39 to ocean cruising superyachts.
