Italian design company Centrostile Proto Design focuses on concept design, the generation of models and the building of moulds, all coordinated by a team of professionals backed by the most highly advanced technological systems. At the METS 2014 event, SuperYacht Times had a conversation with the company’s President, Davide Cipriani, about two projects, a 60 metre superyacht concept, and the Riva 88 Florida.
One of the latest concept design projects of the company is a 60 metre superyacht. Cipriani revealed several details about the creation of the design, stating, “The idea was born out of trying to create a new kind of design, a new kind of design thinking. We use different shapes to the hull and we inserted the balcony in the bow to increase the functionality of the design. This yacht showcases new thinking about the design, the real union between design and engineering. Not only design, not only shape without sense. We developed this product so that we could show what we can do.”
Another recent example of just what the company are capable of was found in the Riva 88 with a hardtop. Cipriani comments on the complexity involved with the design of this vessel. He says, “This is a revolutionary solution to having two boats in one. With the convertible top you can have the open boat and the hardtop boat. The system is simple to use in reality, but it is not really simple to create. There is the union between engineering and design and the form of the hardtop was studied and did not impact upon the external design from the designers at Riva.” The Riva 88 is scheduled to be launched in February or March 2015.
METS 2014 will be held from the 18th to the 20th November at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre.
