The Monaco Marine Group has announced plans for a new shipyard in order to accommodate some of the largest superyachts on the market. Photo: Guillaume PlissonThe move would see the development of the first maintenance and refit shipyard for superyachts of up to 130-metres in the French Riviera. As the superyacht market forecasts around 40 yacht refits per year and the largest segment of the fleet over 80m, Monaco Marine Group is seeking to tap into the growing market. The new refit and maintenance shipyard will also feature a yacht lift, capable of lifting superyachts of up to 6000 tonnes to an accessible platform which will be able to hold four superyachts for service work at the same time. The Monaco Marine Group’s announcement comes just weeks before the region’s world-famous yacht show officially kicks off.
Located in the Grand Port Autonome de Marseille and situated at the heart of the Bassin Mirabeau, the new yard plans to welcome its first customers over the course of the next four years. Complimentary to the drydock will be a 50,000 square metre development which will reportedly include workshops, offices, and an area dedicated to crew members.
The Monaco Marine Group currently manages a network of seven shipyards and a marina in the French Riviera.
