They used a rescue sling and an additional safety line for the casualties to run themselves along the rope one by one, before transferring to the sling and hauled onboard.Captain Thomas Auckland was responsible for throwing the rescue sling, communicating with casualties and removing them for the water at midships with assistance from the engineer onboard. The crew onboard Genevieve later discovered that all of the casualties were wearing all the clothes they owned, with many wearing three pairs of jeans over six upper layers. Thereafter, I decided that marking the upturned hull with lights strapped to a lifejacket and cutting it loose was the best option, as I felt the situation was becoming hazardous.
