Nautor’s Swan have announced the completion of their flagship yacht, the ClubSwan 125 Skorpios, following her technical launch in May. The 42.62-metre yacht is a high-performance maxi sailing yacht, and is the first hull of the new racing series from ClubSwan. Set to be the fastest mono-hull sailing yacht in the world, she hit the water in Pietarsaari and is set to debut at the Rolex Fastnet Race. Skorpios’ hull, superstructure and decks are constructed from carbon fibre prepreg with Nomex and Corecell cores, and she is fitted with a deep draught canting keel reducing weight, all of which help her to achieve her extremely light displacement.A unique rotating C-foil, with an asymmetrical profile, has been developed to give vertical lift and reduce her displacement and bring her into a skimming position. She is also equipped with twin rudders for advanced control while sailing at high speeds.Nautor's Swan's Vice President, Enrico Chieffi, commented, “The brief was at first for a very fast super yacht for inshore racing, but as we were developing the project, it changed. We all realised this yacht was meant to be a record-breaking machine. And so here we are… and the boat has been developed to be successful in offshore racing and intends to beat all the monohull records around the world.” The naval architect behind the exciting project, Juan Kouyoumdijan, added, “Being part of this project, which is meant to write a new page in sailing history, is something very rewarding.”Skorpios is now at sea and ready to take part in the most iconic events in the sailing calendar.
