Yet building his very own yacht is something Paul has thought about for a long time. “We’ve had used boats, I’ve always fixed them up, put the systems I wanted on them,” Paul continues, “I was watching boating videos and stumbled upon the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/16808" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Slow Ride23.85m (78'3&quot;)Bering Yachts2026">Bering Yachts</a> channel, and decided to give them a call.”“Honestly, we didn’t actually look anywhere else,” Paul mentions, “when I saw the videos and chatted with Alexei, he was just so down-to-earth, and I loved the style of the boat, it was unique looking.” Paul felt like the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4385" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bering Yachts (Company)">Bering Yachts</a> Shipyard in Antalya was the right fit, “the yacht is a steel hull, which is precisely what I was looking for.”Having always owned pre-built yachts, Paul’s patience has been tested, not just because of his excitement to cruise onboard the yacht, but also because a week after signing the deal, Paul’s other yacht, sitting in Fort Myers, Florida, was destroyed by hurricane Ian. “It’s quite surreal that it happened like that.” Getting to launch the yacht and see her touch the water was a great moment of both relief and excitement.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/382538/image/large-b3a6aabc47478833dc3131bd137e923b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/382538">Designing a superyachtThe yacht is a semi-custom, so while the bones were pre-designed, there were plenty of choices left for Paul and his family to decide on. The stand-out choice has been the colour of the hull: “we probably went through 15 or 20 different colour renders, and Carol likes blue, so we were searching for the perfect colour” Paul recalls. Upon finding a colour they liked, Paul asked the yard to send a big colour swatch: “a computer only shows so much, but as soon as we saw the swatch we fell in love with the colour.”The interiors feature a softer, more neutral palette than the teal exterior, across an open floor plan that seamlessly connects the galley with the saloon and features large windows, providing plenty of natural lighting.
