New Terranova Explorer 115 designed by Barracuda Yacht Design

Overflowing with style and character the Terranova 115 (LOA: 35.05m) is the latest and largest offering in a range of three luxury ‘Explorer Style’ yachts, designed by Barracuda Yacht Design and built at Terranova’s ultra-modern 8,000m² covered facility.

The new 115 was officially introduced to the public at this years Genoa Boat Show in October and joins her sister ships, the Terranova 85 (LOA: 25.90m) and the 68 (LOA: 20m), launched in 2005 and 2006 respectively. With distinctive ‘retro’ appeal offering a real sense of purpose, much of the inspiration for the 115 design comes from the rounded corners and flowing lines of the most stylish ships from the 1950’s and 1960’s periods.

Barracuda’s design incorporates a number of influences taken from sailing yachts. As a result the 115 is a true sea going vessel, able to cope with a wide range of challenging conditions. With fuel consumption as low as 45litres/hour at fairly slow speeds of around 9knots, the 115 is capable of being out at sea for long periods of time, if required. The hull is a composite sandwich construction of a moderate displacement, using biaxial and quadriaxial textiles in the lay up. Primary propulsion is via twin 900hp MAN engines with a max cruising speed of 15knots and ‘economy’ speed of 12knots. Stabilisers assure a safe and comfortable ride.

Externally, the 115 benefits from plenty of gangway room and fore and aft deck space. In particular, the main foredeck area offers ample room for the launch and recovery of various equipment items such as tenders and wet bikes etc, via a permanently mounted crane.

The main deck houses an impressive lounge and dining area and a less formal ‘breakfast’ area, adjacent to the main galley. Outside there is an external dining table and seating on the aft deck. The upper deck contains a forward-looking helm station and to the rear, a very private and luxurious owner’s state-room, containing a large bed, double bathroom, walk-in wardrobes and separate desk/table area. Patio style doors open out from the owner’s bedroom onto a further private seating, and also where the yachts main tender is launched and stored via crane.

In keeping with the ‘Explorer Style’ theme the 115 has a large fly-bridge area, not just for steering, but for great viewing of local scenery, marine wildlife etc., and this is also where an outside Jacuzzi has been installed. Other key external features include an ample boarding platform, for the use of swimmers and divers and launching and recovering equipment.

Internally the 115 offers a high level of living space with maximum comfort and can accommodate the owner plus a maximum of 10 guests, plus crew. The lower deck houses the crew accommodation and crew galley, plus four main en-suite guest cabins, and a full beam width VIP suite, with separate bathroom area.

Terranova Yachts have employed an Italian cabinetmaker to oversee the furniture, which is made out of satin-lacquered cherry and designed in an elegant and traditional style. Natural fabrics, such as linen, cotton and leather give the interior a Mediterranean twist.
