The Marine Industry Association of New Zealand (MIA) has elected internationally-renowned superyacht manufacturer Mr Ian Cook as its new President and fibreglass power boat builder Mr Griff Simpson and Bayswater Marina General Manager Mr Phil Wardale as its two new Vice Presidents.
New President Mr Ian Cook is Managing Director of NZ Yachting Developments, a Hobsonville based award winning super yacht builder. He is also the current Chairman of the Boating Industry Training Organisation (BITO), the arm of the MIA responsible for training boat building and related trades’ apprentices. A BITO board member for 5 years, Ian Cook also served on the New Zealand Marine Export Group Board for 3 years.
A keen sailor, he has over 25 years’ experience in the boat building industry, is involved in the Classic Yacht Association and owns the iconic A Class keeler, Ranger, which he recently restored and on which he and his crew represented New Zealand at the America’s Cup Jubilee in Cowes. Mr Cook says his aim is to ensure the industry continues to grow and to help improve training at all levels of the industry.
