I’m always excited to be here but, for us, being at the show is less about selling our service. The 42.76m catamaran <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12135" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf X42.75m (140'3&quot;)Rossinavi2024">Seawolf X</a> can cross the Atlantic using electric mode for 80% of the time.Maserati, better known as a luxury carmaker, debuted at Monaco with its all-electric powerboat Tridente. The 10.5m boat has an output of 600hp and a top speed of 40 knots.Meanwhile, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7872" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="GX Superyachts (Company)">GX Superyacht</a>s’ radical new range offers smooth and luxurious hybrid power with an electric range of 100 nautical miles at six knots and, with diesel power, the ability to cross the Atlantic at 12 knots on a single tank of fuel. The range promises carbon emissions that are less than 60% of a conventional yacht while its large lithium batteries and solar array can power full hotel systems, including air conditioning, for 48 hours while at anchor.Elsewhere, as <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/innovation-at-monaco-yacht-show-2024" target="_blank">SuperYacht Times reported, hydrogen fuel cells</a> offer another approach to carbon-neutral yachting.It’s not just propulsion. It’s exciting to see more eco-conscious designs and builds all around the show as designers explore new, more sustainable materials and hull designs.These innovations are important for the future of the industry. As <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6626" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Centtrip (Company)">Centtrip</a> highlighted in our recent Changing Faces of Wealth report, sustainability is an increasingly important concern for the ultra-high-net-worth individuals that are the superyacht sector’s clients. The evolving use of superyachtsWe’ve seen this growing for some time and it’s fascinating to see how owners’ evolving interests and concerns are influencing yacht design.Owners are spending more time aboard their yachts – sometimes to the mild concern of the charter brokers – and this is being reflected in how they use their boats and how design meets those needs.Family time is important too, and you can see this not only in more toys and beach clubs, but also in more multi-functional space for entertaining.With owners spending more time onboard, and often a greater interest in the environment, superyachts are sailing further afield. Owners wish to make a positive contribution to the environment by supporting research and even accommodating scientists for trips to the Antarctic and other regions. The Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez race got off to a promising start yesterday as the maxi fleet embarked on the opening races of the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7139" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="International Maxi Association (IMA) (Company)">International Maxi Association</a>’s 2024 Mediterranean Maxi Inshore Challenge.
