Oceanco unveils new 131m superyacht concept Aeolus at DIBS 2023

Oceanco has unveiled the first renderings for its new 131-metre superyacht concept Aeolus at the Dubai International Boat Show 2023. The innovative motor yacht is characterised by her curved linear profile and use of sustainable materials throughout.Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco exterior designNamed after the Greek god of the wind, Aeolus features exterior design by Giles Taylor with naval architecture from the boards of Lateral Naval Architects. “She is inspired by the spirit of the ocean,” commented designer Giles Taylor. “I wanted to bring together the ability to walk around the entire superstructure while still taking in the vistas of the ocean and staying connected with the sea.”Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco interior designThe hull of Aelous showcases two dynamic, forward-oriented buttresses that provide an opening onto the sea. Her three distinct, glass-clad, layered decks and open hull design also bring her guests closer to the waterline.Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco exterior designAeolus is designed to be a ‘home away from home,” with a private owner’s oasis on her top deck, delivering the best views and acting as a sanctuary on the water. “Aeolus’s design sculpture is harmonious and borne of the function and flow envisaged for her future owner. Her curves do not make her overly feminine because there is a masculine quality to her bold, forthright architecture. Apart from the deck surfaces themselves, not one surface is flat or brutally geometric, which provides a unique aesthetic that sets Aeolus apart,” added Giles Taylor.Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco interior designThe master suite features unobstructed views, a stunning sunken bath and a private seating nook for quiet contemplation. Further guest accommodation includes two guest suites on her main deck adjacent to the gym and exterior atrium, as well as two guest suites and VIP suites on her lower deck.Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco interior designThe main deck features a stylishly integrated pool and lounging area to the stern with stairs descending to the beach club. Her main deck lounge leads to her inner atrium via a staircase, offering a place for guests to dine and relax.

Aeolus is fully aligned with Oceanco’s NXT initiative and is in tune with evolving perspectives on the environment as well as lifestyle. She features interior design from London-based design studio Njord by Bergman Design House, which chose fully sustainable and traceable materials, including biomaterials in her design.Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco interior designAeolus uses cactus leather alternatives from Desserto to create beautiful and luxurious surfaces for her guests to enjoy. As well as this, she features the use of egg shells embossed into resin, instead of marble for a lighter and more sustainable material.Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco interior designAeolus takes inspiration from her surroundings with highly textured veneer and resin surfaces that mimic both mountains and waves and also includes statement walls created from casting of fossils with embedded marble ‘pearls’.

“Every element has been rigorously considered, including sourcing and traceability of materials and working with some of the world’s most innovative artisans in biomaterials and sustainable development such as Desserto, a premium vegan leather alternative that is made from climate-positive cactus plants and Oliveri Homes, which exclusively works with Global Organic Textile Standard cottons and uses non-toxic processes and dyes to create its materials,” explained Sarah Colbon, Co-founder of Njord.Aeolus yacht concept from Oceanco exterior designTogether with Aeolus’s technical partners ABB & MTU, Oceanco and Lateralhave developed the Energy Transition Platform (ETP), an adaptable architecture to enable a future-proofed pathway to net zero.

This demands an adaptable technical architecture that can accommodate the alterations to layout, configuration and specifications needed to integrate future technologies and alternative fuels in the least invasive way possible. Lateral and Oceanco have developed the ETP to ensure multiple technical pathways can be pursued as technologies mature during the energy transition timeline,” concluded James Roy of Lateral.
