82m Oceanco superyacht Alfa Nero sold at auction for $67.6 million

The 82-metre Oceanco superyacht Alfa Nero has been sold at auction according to a statement from the Antigua and Barbuda government. The auction took place during a televised live broadcast on the state-owned television network and was allegedly won by a businessman from the United States for $67.6 million.Alfa Nero exterior designThe auction took place after Alfa Nero had been ordered to stay in the country since the beginning of 2022. The superyacht had laid ‘abandoned’ and had not been allowed to fuel and could only take on emergency supplies to keep both the yacht and Falmouth Harbour secure.Alfa Nero yacht saloonThe auction was held on 16 June and hours before the sale was finalised, her alleged owners applied for an emergency injunction in the Court of Appeal. Andrew O’Kola, the attorney representing the apparent owners, told local online publisher, Antigua Observer:

“On the one hand, the matter is before the High Court as we have been granted leave for judicial review on some grounds, and on the other hand it is before the Court of Appeal with respect to the emergency application for interim relief.”Alfa Nero yacht saloonThe government was pushing for the auction to take place in order to prevent an environmental disaster, after the owner of the superyacht was said to be on the sanction list issued by the US, the UK and the European Union, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The yacht’s ownership was then transferred to the Antiguan government in April and was said to be costing them $28,000 a week to maintain, not including food and the wages for the crew members.Alfa Nero yacht poolAlfa Nero was previously sold in 2011 with a last known asking price of €115 million, while her most recent sale saw her sell for just over half of this, beating out two other bids.

Alfa Nero was delivered in 2007 by Oceanco and features an exterior design by Nuvolari Lenard and naval architecture by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture and Oceanco. Her 2,500 GT of interior volume was entrusted to Alberto Pinto.

Alfa Nero offers accommodation for as many as 12 guests across six suites, comprising a master, two VIPs, two doubles and a twin, as well as a crew of 28. She has a long list of key features that include a hydraulically operated pool and a helipad on her aft deck.
