The month of May saw the SuperYacht Times team travel across Europe to bring you the latest news and cover some of the largest yachting events all the while capturing it in immaculate detail. Here we recap just some of the most exciting events we have attended this past month.
Genoa Charter Show & shipyard visits to Tankoa and OTAM
The SuperYacht Times media team landed in Genoa in the first week of May to cover the 28th edition of the MYBA Charter Show. After a cloudy start to the show the team made the most of the prevailing sunny conditions to capture and record every aspect of the show including a series of one-on-one interviews with some of the summer season’s hottest charter yachts. While in Genoa, Tom and Gemma paid visits to the Tankoa and Otam shipyards to find out more on their ongoing projects.
Dilbar photo shoot on the North Sea
To bring you an exclusive first look of Lürssen’s newly launched 156 metre superyacht Dilbar, SuperYacht Times's Tom van Oossanen and Charl van Rooy took to the skies over the North Sea as the yacht steamed past the Dutch coast last month. The Espen Oeino-designed 156 metreDilbarhas been spotted embarking on several sea trials over the last few months and finally departed the German yacht builder’s facility mid-May.
SYT trip to capture A in Iceland
May saw SuperYacht Times staff photographer Tom van Oossanen and Editor Charl van Rooy travel to the Nordic capital of Reykjavik to capture one of the world's most iconic superyachts. The 119 metre superyacht A was anchored off Reykjavik and the team managed to photograph her in detail in one of the most extraordinary locations possible.
The Edmiston Monaco Grand Prix Experience
Powered by Edmiston, the SuperYacht Times team attended the prestigious annual Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix last weekend to bring you all the action from one of the largest superyacht gatherings on the summer calendar. The Monaco Grand Prix draws some of the world’s largest and most iconic yachts to the anchorages and moorings of Monte Carlo each year.
Sanlorenzo’s exclusive Elite Days event in Portofino
SuperYacht Time’s Merijn de Waard attended Sanlorenzo’s exclusive weekend gathering of the Italian shipyard’s owners community in the Portofino Bay. The annual event organised by Sanlorenzo to present its entire fleet and latest news to its cosmopolitan ship-owners community. The shipyard made use of the occasion to preview its new SL106 Hybrid model - the first boat of its class with a hybrid propulsion system.
London Yacht, Jet & Prestige Car Show
The second edition of the London Yacht, Jet & Prestige Car Show took place in May and SuperYacht Company were once again attending with both editorial and sales teams on scene for the duration of event. The SuperYacht Times stand made for a social corner where industry professionals and enthusiasts alike could meet.
Feadship’s new superyacht Vanish in Amsterdam
The 66msuperyahct Vanish was moored alongside the majestic National Maritime Museum in the heart of Amsterdam in early May. SuperYacht Times made the most of the opportunity of having one of the latest launched superyachts in our own backyard by capturing the Eidsgaard-designed yacht from every possible angle in this fitting setting.
Sybaris launch ceremony at Perini Navi
During a private ceremony held last month at Perini Navi’s facility in La Spezia was the unveiling of the largest sailing yacht to have been built in Italy to date,Sybaris. SuperYacht Times, along with international press, were invited to attend and join in the celebrations of the Italian shipyard’s milestone achievements.
Baglietto’s first 46 m FAST launch
Baglietto spent the second weekend in May launching the first hull in the Italian shipyard’s FAST line, the 46m FAST superyacht. SuperYacht Times were on scene in La Spezia to witness the launch ceremony that was attended by international press, the mayor of La Spezia and other local delegates.
As the summer season heats up the SuperYacht Times team foresees another busy upcoming month. We look forward to attending events such as the Superyacht Cup Palma, Spanish shipyard Astondoa’s centennial celebrations and a visit to established British shipyard Princess Yachts. Who knows where else our team might end up this month!
