Just after dawn on a crisp September morning, a procession of classic and modern supercars departed from the illustrious surroundings Royal Automobile Club’s Country residence in Epsom, Surrey. Destined to arrive into Monte Carlo in time for the start of the Monaco Yacht Show 72 short hours later, this selection of automobiles were about to embark on a trip of engaged driving, focused navigating and proper motoring!
Universally regarded as “The most civilised way to travel to the yacht show”; the three-day ‘Auto Tour’, now in its 6th year, was made up of a selection of exceptional vehicles, all guaranteed to attract a crowd upon their arrival into Monaco. Equipped with only a road map and a hamper of scrumptious goodies (satellite navigation strictly not allowed!) the group of car enthusiasts, navigated a well-planned route through stunning French countryside, interspersed with carefully selected lunch and wonderful overnight stops.
Following a glorious three day adventure, which saw each and every lunch, fuel and hotel stop, bathed in uninterrupted sunshine, and with camaraderie between guests at an unsurpassed high, the tour formed an orderly convoy just outside the principality.
Greeted on the border by a Police Escort, the tour sliced its way through the busy Monaco streets and up to Casino Square where over 200 invited guests were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the cars at a champagne reception.
Described as the ‘most exclusive event of the yachting calendar’, one thing is for sure … those with a highly coveted invite to join RWD on next year’s extraordinary annual trip are in for an exceptionally memorable three days!
