Palladium Technologies is supplying its state-of-the-art SiMON monitoring, alarm and control system on the 64.5-meter (215-foot) megayacht Tosca IV, which is undergoing a major overhaul by Projato Services at a shipyard in Brazil.
Originally built at the Verolme Cork Drydock in 1973 for the Irish Navy, the steel-hull vessel played an important role in rescuing survivors during the Fastnet Race disaster in 1979, and was converted into a megayacht at Pomerania Shipyard in Szczecin, Poland, in 2002.
The SiMON installation for Tosca IV will monitor approximately 300 sensor points interfacing with the two Caterpillar engines and three Kohler generators, as well as bilges, tanks, pumps, doors and ports, HVAC and security deck sensors. Two rack-mounted computers are being installed in the wheelhouse with five large high-resolution Nauticomp color LCD displays. Alarm panels are also being installed in the captain’s cabin, crew lounge and engine control room. The SiMON installation also includes a multi-level fire alarm system with heat and smoke detectors in a zoned/loop configuration to meet classification society specifications.
Palladium’s SiMON Anywhere remote monitoring system will provide Internet access via a secure IP portal, permitting the owner or other authorized persons to view the vessel’s current and historical data via satellite or landline connections.
For Tosca IV, Palladium has designed a pitch-and-roll monitoring system with a highly sensitive two-axis sensor on the centerline of the vessel. Trend charts will provide historical records of the vessel’s movements over time. Palladium is also installing an NMEA 0183 gateway for interfacing SiMON with the yacht’s navigation systems, making all of the NMEA data available to any computer connected to the yacht’s Ethernet network.
The yacht is also being equipped with Palladium’s SiMON C security system, with eight security CCTV cameras monitoring strategic locations above and below decks, as well as a thermal imaging night vision camera at the masthead.
