Patrick Knowles Designs Wins Industry Award

The yacht and aircraft interior design firm Patrick Knowles Designs has been honored with the 2007 ShowBoats International Best Refit/Reconfiguration Award for its work on the 168’ motoryacht Helios2. The award will be presented to the owners, interior design firm, shipyard and naval architect responsible for the project at a special event in Monaco on June 21, 2007.

“It’s very gratifying to be recognized among the “best of the best,” said Patrick Knowles, president of Patrick Knowles Designs. Past industry recognition of Patrick Knowles’ yacht interior design work includes the ShowBoats International Award for Best Design, as well as several award nominations by both the Superyacht Society and ShowBoats International.

Motoryacht Helios2 started life as motoryacht Anson Bell, built by Palmer Johnson Shipyards. Patrick Knowles Designs was commissioned by her current owners to transform her into a vessel suitable for their taste and lifestyle.

The design intent was to update her entire interior, as well as to recreate her skylounge, which was rebuilt in open pore wenge wood. This created a strong juxtaposition to the balance of her interior, which is primarily anigre wood. The new skylounge incorporated rich, deep and textural fabrics and colors to create a warm, family-oriented environment, where the owners anticipate spending the majority of their interior time onboard the vessel. As for the balance of the interior, her anigre canvas remained intact. However, all décor and furnishings were completely gutted and replaced with a soothing, tranquil, Zen-inspired style, which is more fitting for the new young family.

A dramatic art collection was commissioned for the interior, which underscores the owner’s artistic sensibility, as well as the sophisticated style of her interior.

The exterior decks were completely redeveloped to capture the ultimate experience in outdoor living. From her tremendous aft deck, which accommodates her entire owner and guest party for dining, to her sky lounge aft deck, which also accommodates a dining area forward, as well as flexible and comfortable lounging in direct sunlight to aft, to the incredible diversified sun deck, which has been redesigned to accommodate every imaginable feature, such as sun bathing, hot tub lounging, equipment for exercising, under-cover lounging, dining area and full service bar. With amenities such as this, it is easy to understand why the owners would spend virtually their entire day on this deck.
