Pendennis Cup 2010 & 2012 superyacht regattas announced

Pendennis Shipyard recently announced their intention to hold the 2nd & 3rd editions of the Pendennis Cup next year and in the Olympic year 2012. The dates for the 2010 regatta is 9th – 14th August and provisional plans for 2012 are to hold the regatta in early summer, the racing will again be managed by the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association.

Following on from the success of the 2008 regatta, the two events will have a full entertainments programme that will complement the 5 days of competitive racing out on the waters of Falmouth Bay - giving owners and crews a chance to enjoy a “proper Cornish experience” and allowing them to enjoy Falmouth and its beautiful surroundings.

The 38m gaff schooner Mariette, participant of the 2008 Pendennis Cup, relished the challenging conditions in the Falmouth Bay: “The exhilarating conditions of Falmouth Bay are some of the best sailing waters we have experienced and certainly make for heart pounding racing” remarked her Captain, Charlie Wroe.

Toby Allies, Sales & Marketing Director at Pendennis commented, “We are working with two other large classic yacht events taking place in Cowes, organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron and the British Classic Yacht Club respectively, to provide a comprehensive 2010 large yacht regatta programme in UK waters. Following interest from modern yachts, a Gazelle class will be introduced for each event running alongside the classics.”

He continued “The 2012 Olympic year is likely to attract a good number of superyachts, which prompted the decision to start the planning process for this regatta as early as possible.”
