Port of San Diego joins San Diego Superyacht Association

The San Diego Superyacht Association is pleased to announce that the Port of San Diego has joined the non-profit coalition that was formed a year ago to attract more superyachts to the region.

Stephen P. Cushman, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners, noted that roughly a year ago, the San Diego Unified Port District began accommodating superyachts along the Embarcadero area between the Grape Street Pier and the San Diego Maritime Museum.

Up to eight luxury yachts can be accommodated and Cushman said the Port recognizes the economic potential of the superyachts' visit to the area. That's one reason the Port recently became a member of the San Diego Superyacht Association, he said.

"We recognize the economic impact that superyachts have on our region, and we wholeheartedly endorse the association's effort."

The association plans on an advertising and marketing campaign as part of its effort to attract new business to the area’s yacht clubs and marinas.

“We’re grateful that our collective effort to attract yachts here, as well as make their arrival smooth and hassle-free, has been officially recognized by the Port,” said SDSA president Paul Daubner. “This partnership is a perfect example of San Diego’s business and government entities working together to improve the marine-industry economy.”
