Powerboat and shorebased training by RSS

As we are all aware many super yachts now require their deck crew to hold a range of certification before even setting foot on their decks and taking charge of their tenders. Responding to this demand Riviera Sea School (RSS), approved RYA training centre, are now running a range of powerboat and shorebased training from their new base in Golfe-Juan.

In order to run these courses to the highest standard RSS have taken delivery of the first Ribeye 600 A Series to be supplied to a training centre in the South of France, from the highly regarded rib specialists, Ribeye. Powered by Yamaha 100 outboard engine and 6m in length, it has proven ideal for training and as a versatile yacht tender. Due to the fact that RSS is furnished with all their own equipment instructors are able to conduct up to 80% of their powerboat tuition ‘on the water’. Sam (principal) comments that ‘it is remarkable how many newly trained tender drivers feel they have little more skill or confidence than they did prior to their course due that lack of teaching time spent on the water’.

The instructors at RSS are both experienced and patient, providing flexible courses designed to the specific requirements of their participants – ranging from the popular Powerboat Level II right through to the Yachtmaster Offshore and Ocean courses.

RSS aim to put the fun back into training and offers a ‘first hand experience’ understanding of what it is like ‘making it’ in the yachting industry.
